Finally found some time today to do some work on the 5.0. Go out there and using a tap wrench work on the ezout. Doing it and then all I can say is "ah crap". Yup, block cracked (top part of the threads that you can see through the waterjacket). I know I am strong but I'm not that strong. It fell down into the block along with the piece of the head bolt that was still in the block. Odd, anyhow it's time for a new block, yippeee . Goes along with the crappy week I've already been having.------------------ Tim M&M Member #35 1965 Mustang coupe, 200 I6, Holley 2300, Clifford header, true duals w/ 26" Smithys 1988 Mustang GT AOD vert, 15.810 @ 88.871 mph 100% stock w/ no traction 1976 Silverline Comoro 18' trihull ski boat, 188 hp 302 I/O, another toy http://all.at/mustang https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/I65Stang.html

Tim,Not good news, but at least you get to build a new motor. The old one has served everyone well, time to put it to rest. SteveW

Hey Tim, hang loose on the 5.0 for a little while and I bet I'll have an engine for you! After I get the donor/parts car for the Silver Fox, I plan on selling the engine because I'm not gonna need it for Renee's car. I'm constantly looking, and have found a couple nice ones (GT hatchbacks) on ebay, but have yet to bid on either of them. But once I get the donor car, you have first dibbs on the engine if ya want.Stewart

Yeah I know Steve... its just money right? Stewart, as I already told you, thanks . Now I just need to figure out what I am going to do. I could 1) buy a block and put the stock stuff in it ($300+bearings, rings, etc), 2) use a donor engine, 3) buy or build a 306, or 4) swap in a 351W . Lol, I just need to decide if I want to keep it about stock horsepower or actually build this pig up... ------------------ Tim M&M Member #35 1965 Mustang coupe, 200 I6, Holley 2300, Clifford header, true duals w/ 26" Smithys 1988 Mustang GT AOD vert, 15.810 @ 88.871 mph 100% stock w/ no traction 1976 Silverline Comoro 18' trihull ski boat, 188 hp 302 I/O, another toy http://all.at/mustang https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/I65Stang.html

Ah yes, but there is something else I am wanting to buy (yes, a 3rd car but I wont get into that right now ). This will just put me back a lil further so I wont be able to get it til next year. But this will mean I will have another engine to last 160K+ in the '88. Larry, I would have taken you up on that yesterday . Well I've been pricing out shortblocks and a 357 is comparable to a 306 so might as well do the swap right? Maybe we can push this pig into the high 12s . ------------------ Tim M&M Member #35 1965 Mustang coupe, 200 I6, Holley 2300, Clifford header, true duals w/ 26" Smithys 1988 Mustang GT AOD vert, 15.810 @ 88.871 mph 100% stock w/ no traction 1976 Silverline Comoro 18' trihull ski boat, 188 hp 302 I/O, another toy http://all.at/mustang https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/I65Stang.html

Ok, the 351/358 is out due to emissions questions (ie trying to get it to pass ).

Ok, here is my latest thinking. Get a new 5.0 block, swap in the rotating assembly with new rings/bearing, new oil pump (while its out right?), throw an E303 cam in her (emissions, while its out once again), and then put the rest of the stock stuff on top for now. Seems like a winner of a plan unless someone answers my machine work post with something to the contrary , I wanna get the '88 back on the road soon.
