I have a brand new set of carbs and have replaced the needle and seats because they would not close. They won't flood out the vent but can't keep the level set. Even after replacing the needles one of the two carbs still has the same problem. It is dumping fuel big time!! In fact the carb gasket is almost competley soaked with fuel.
The power valves are new too. What can I try to remedy the float issue? Two new needle and seats have not fixed the problem. I even tried bending the float arms abit but that did not work. The floats have no leaks either.
I pulled a plug today and the plug was wet and black almost fouled. Need to fix corectley so all that fuel dosen't wash my cylinders down with fuel!!!

With this and the other problems you are having, are you sure your fuel pressure gauge is accurate?

Does your engine actually run out of fuel while accelerating?

I was thinking exactly the same thing as Steve as I read this post....bad regulator?

He's changed regulators three times.

I'm thinking his fuel pressure gauge is giving him an erroneously low reading, making him jack up the pressure and overrun his needle&seats.

Gary, maybe that pressure drop you see is your gauge going wacky.

Do you have a miss at high rpms?

I have left the factory setting of the regualtor alone. When I installed it and started the pump the pressure gauge indicated 7.5psi. Knowing this regualtor setting indicated that pressure I would not adjust it higher to compensate a pressure loss. I know the needles can be overcome if pressure is above 8psi. It would be stupid to keep cranking the pressure up because the pressure keeps dropping. I feel the needles are not always closing and must be sticking open. I adjust the fuel level to find my setting will not stay. I can shut down the engine, open the site hole plug and fuel just pours out!! Iv'e adjusted the levels several times with engine running so the level is right at the bottom of the site hole but not dripping out. Later I check the setting and fuel pours out the holes again on one secondary float bowl. Iv'e replaced the needles twice with new and float/s have no leaks as Iv'e tested them. I also hear no fluid in them when I shake them. For some reason after engine warms up the needles start to stay open showing a pressure loss on the gauge and pressure never recovers. Like I mentioned before, the carb to manifold gasket on one carb is soaked with fuel!!

It could still be the guage. The factory setting may be too high as is and you are still pushing fuel past tehneedle and seat. I would change guages. We had one guy with a crcle track car burn up a $15k SBF becouse his guage was wrong. It kept showing too much pressure and he kept trying to back it down. After it melted the motor down, they changed guages and found they only had 3 PSI. Yours may be the other direction.

I have never had more than one needle and seat change on me. And for that matter, I h ave only ever had one that wouldnt hold a setting, and in that case, the flaot had a hole in it and was sinking.

You didn't answer my question: Do you have a miss at high rpms?

You need to find another gauge to check it. No way you blew two needle&seats at once.

I had a problem with one needle/seat and figured Id just replace both while I was at it. Also I tried #116-4 brass floats instead of the plastic ones that came with the carb.
Im finding that float has a diferent arm and the needle sits better on the arm...anyway I seems to work better and seals when level is adjusted..weird but but ever it takes to correct it i'll do. Also with the dual carbs it is very sensitive and important that both trottle plates are equal when adjusting the idle setting, to much over the other and the main curcuit starts working and dribbles fuel from the jets causing a very rich condition. Im getting close to getting it right finally. Steve, the gauge is correct, I tested against another and it is dead on:-)
Does engine pop, well not all the time..only when the other float was used and didn't close properly flooding that bowl. Now it runs smooth through out 1000-5000 rpm, but haven't tried it higher yet..it's loud and I am in my neigborhood testing the car---LOL I'll take her out on some back roads tomarrow and open it up a few or more times then read my new plugs and go from there.
