I can get a pretty good deal on either of these cams F303, X303, would they significantly improve my performance? This is my only car and daily driver but I'm willing to sacrifice more drivability for a significant top end gain. I'm specifically thinking, will the RPM range raise so much that my stock bottom end won't hold up, and will my dual plane intake flow enough for these cams. My specs: 1987 5.0L HO, stock bottom end w/Boss 302 windage tray E7TE heads, ported with GT40 valves & valvetrain B303 cam 1.7:1 Crane Energizer roller rockers Weiand Stealth intake Holley 650 DP (might go to a 700) Headers Car is a stick with 3.70:1 gears, and trips the scales at 2990 lbs. ------------------ -Charlie Ping 1970 Maverick Grabber [email protected] Daily Driver http://www.maverickgrabber.com

a lifter munched my e-303 and i got an f-303 and i havent been impressed. think the car felt quicker with the e cam but never got to run it with my current setup to compare. other people claim to have had better luck with this cam than my experience. next cam i get will be a comp cam custom grind and will need flycutting the pistons im sure. ------------------ 67 coupe, 650dp and rpm intake on 5.0 with afr 165 heads, 4 speed, 4.11's.....best so far is [email protected] in 1/8 mile with 1.79 60ft. time.

Thanks for the replies. Now, the question is, will my stock pistons kiss the valves with the higher lift and 1.7:1 rockers? Unfortunately, the answer is probably yes But its worth a try; all I have to do is pull one head to find out.

You should have adequate clearance with the X-303 and 1.7 rockers Charlie. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link

Well, I have 10 thousandths shaved from my block, and a small amount shaved from the head. I hope they do fit. However, I have been brainstorming ideas to check for clearance. The contact would occur during overlap, right? So wouldn't it be possible to measure valve depth during TDC overlap with a dial indicator and then remove the rockers, springs and retainers and measure valve depth before contacting the piston? I'd like to not remove the heads.

Charlie I used an x 303 cam in my last motor and loved it, you can see the combo here http://ragtop-racing.stangnet.com/whats_new.html The motor was plagued with bad bore's yet ran very strong.
