ok, went tonight to see how much the car would pick up since i had head gaskets blown on # 1 and #8....water jaket to cylinder. it didnt help as much as expected, but gave me consistant 8.20's when the toploader wasnt hanging up between 2nd and 3rd gear. however my new best is only .02 quicker than before when i had blow head gaskets and 67/73 jets in the carb. now i have 74/80's and good gaskets. took me 3 passes to find out the car didnt want more than 34 total on the timing because of missing gears. it took me my first 3 passes to find out that NO MATTER WHAT THE MICKEY THOMPSON WEBSITE OR HOT ROD MAGAZINE SAYS....ET STREETS LIKE TO BE BURNED GOOD AND HARD. when i started staying in the box a few seconds longer i picked up .9 on my 60ft...now runs 1.80-1.82 launching at 5800 and dropping the clutch. tires were at 17 psi right, 18 left and it didnt spin at all, hope it aint the clutch. if i couldve got my best 60ft matched with my best time i couldve run an 8.15 tonight. one other thing...for some reason one time tonight the car actually stayed straight in the box and let me burn them good...it was a wierd feeling not twisting all over the joint...that was my best 60 ever at 1.80. i didnt change a thing but the next 2 passes it was twisting again and dropped to a 1.82. please check out my spark plug post guys. disreguard my sig, havent put in new times yet.------------------ 67 coupe, 650dp and rpm intake on 5.0 with afr 165 heads, 4 speed, 4.11's.....best so far is [email protected] in 1/8 mile with 1.91 60ft. time.

I absolutely agree 100% The people who try to run them like a street tire find that they hook like a street tire. Glad you got your 60'ers down anyway! SteveW

Chip, Thanks for posting.. There's a lot of information in there I may need when I get hooked up.. I don't know much about traction and gearing, but I have 20 years experience with 302 engines, and I can tell you this.. Plugs can be misleading in dragracing because of timing and ingnition systems...Everybody has a different way to check their plugs.. 74/80s sounds a little rich for your 5.0.. Most folks with good aftermarket heads and 650DP are using 72/72 for 1/8 mi, or 69/78 for 1/4 mi.. I think you should try 73/74 next time.. or maybe 67/80.. Since you have these jets already..

hi chip, i run a 302 w/a 700 dp holley. (yes i know its a little to big but i already had it) it came with 69/78 jets (pv in front) i think i ended up at 71/80 jetting for the best results on my car. i run 1/8 and run the gt40-p heads. good luck---mike r---capri man------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-7.56 @88mph 1/8 1.56 60 ft.

wisked 60ft. time capri, man id love a launch like that! you must have that car dialed in for those times and mph...makes me smile cause i asprire to run a time like that and our combinations arent that far different. i wonder what cam, and gears you are running. i know my cam is too small but it should be enough to get me high 7's. i can hoestly say that a 4.11 gear on a 28 inch tall tire is not well suited for the 1/8 since you have to shift to 4th just before the timer. will try a 26 inch tire when these are shot, hope that will get me into 4th sooner, make gear act lower. blue, will definetly try leaner jets. thanks for the info guys. ------------------ 67 coupe, 650dp and rpm intake on 5.0 with afr 165 heads, 4 speed, 4.11's.....best so far is [email protected] in 1/8 mile with 1.89 60ft. time.

hi chip, i am running 4.10 gears with 26x9x15 hoosiers. by going from 28 to 26 in tires i picked up close to 2-10ths. i run a c-4 with the ford e-303 cam. an x-pipe seems to help the 302s breathe better also. mike r---capri man------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-7.56 @88mph 1/8 1.56 60 ft.

definetly going 26 inch tire next time!! i had an e-303 an the car ran so freaking good after i put my heads on for about 30 minutes. that was before something mysteriously got kicked up in the crankcase and broke my lifter/lifter guide plate and wiped out my e-303. i went to an f-303 cam on the advise of locals and i wasnt impressed. miss my e! was your 2 tenths piked up on your 60 ft. time or was it picked up in overall acceleration? ------------------ 67 coupe, 650dp and rpm intake on 5.0 with afr 165 heads, 4 speed, 4.11's.....best so far is [email protected] in 1/8 mile with 1.89 60ft. time.

i have the 165's and havent been able to get a good run all year so i cant tell you much. i've picked up 4 mph and .1 in the 1/8 mile with them so far but theres more to be had if i can get the carb and igniton right. my 60ft. is whats been killing my e.t. i can honestly tell you that of all the stuff i've done to the car the 2 things that have made the car feel quicker are gears and the heads. dont count out the trick flows or canefields...if you buy edelbrock, go with the victor jr. capri, i ripped my best time last year with stock 5.0 heads when it was 60 degrees outside, ran 8.33 @ 82 with 1.82 60 ft. i see a lot of cars that are 6mph slower than mine running quicker e.t.'s so once i get the mph maxed out with jets and timing, im going to dig in and figure my launch out. i would like to try a different clutch, some rancho adjustable rear shocks, shorter tires, and maybe a 2 step. have you noticed about how much mph you are giving up for e.t. when your car hooks well? ------------------ 67 coupe, 650dp and rpm intake on 5.0 with afr 165 heads, 4 speed, 4.11's.....best so far is [email protected] in 1/8 mile with 1.89 60ft. time.

i pay hardly any attention to my speed because e/t is the only thing that matters in drag racing. however when i went to the 26 in tires from 28, i picked up et and lost speed. h8chevy, i run the ford gt40-p heads and they seem to work very well right out of the box. you can buy them complete for about $500 per pair or bare for $250-$300. good luck--mike r---capri man------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-7.56 @88mph 1/8 1.56 60 ft.
