I like the concept, and used to go, but...The Columbus race is geared to the older cars, but I've boycotted it the last few years because I can't stand how the Crites people operate. They're a bunch of big headed a$$holes. They charge WAY more money to race than the Fun Ford guys, and are extremely overbearing. The races begin with a Friday Test and Tune that runs through the hottest part of the afternoon... starting around noon, and shutting off around 4pm. National Trail has a regular test and tune that fires up shortly after this and runs until around 11! I went there a few years ago, and the National Trail folks let us continue racing for free, but the next year they didn't do it! Turns out, Crites didn't like them making any money off their regular crowd during the Ford races EVEN THOUGH THEY WEREN'T USING THE TRACK! I called both National Trail and Crites to confirm this.

That extra long test and tune in the cool air is what made the trip worthwhile. It's so crowded Saturday and Sunday, you only get a couple runs in each day... and that's in the heat. To cap it off, the entry is around $40-$45 each day. Crites is making HUGE amounts of money off this, and are too bull headed to let us test and tune in cooler weather. I don't know why they don't re-schedule THEIR test and tune later on Friday when it's cooler, and more people are off work. I asked them about this, and they had no answer. They are a bunch of money grubbing, selfish, big headed a$$holes. They were downright rude on the phone as well.

The Norwalk race is MUCH less expensive, the people are WAY nicer, and they even let you camp out at the track all weekend for FREE! They even have electric hookups in the pits (campground). Yea, you camp right where you pit with free electric. They even have showers! A half dozen or so of us usually go down and camp in tents all weekend. We have a blast! If you've never been to Norwalk, you've GOT to check it out. They even sell ice cream for a dollar a pound!

Anyone have any more insight?

Guess I'm just in a good mood today...

Thanks for the insight Mike. I was thinking about taking my car Friday to the test and tune and this will help in my decision. I'm coming from about 4 hours away so I want to make the most of it. I will still attend the Weekend activities at the Expo as a spectator if nothing else. Myself I like to go to a show that caters to the older cars because 9 out of 10 Ford shows nowadays cater to the 5.0 Mustangs.

When is this race at Norwalk? Can you give a little more info?

Well, the Norwalk has already happened. It was around the middle of July... and it does center around Fox bodied cars. There's just a lot more test and tune time, and the place and people are really cool. Columbus is a good place to see a wide variety of the older stuff. It will just cost you, and if you're there to get a lot of runs in yourself, you'll be disappointed. Maybe things have changed lately, who knows. I haven't been there for a couple years. There's a lot of stuff to see as a spectator, but be sure not to forget the sunscreen. There's not much shade to be found.

Good Luck!
