well I almost met the moneymaker team today. by chance I am in minnesota to spend a week with my 15 year old daughter and the nhra is racing in brainerd this weekend so i thought cool I could do both but I could only swing one day, thursday to watch. got up early, got the daughter up early drove 2 and 1/2 hours to get to brainerd from where i am staying, pull up to the gate and guess what? THEY DON'T SELL TICKETS FOR 1 DAY! to get in I would have to buy two $120 all weekend passes. I only wanted in for 1 day. $240 for one day I had to pass. Sorry NHRA I won't see you this year

Ditto! Here in So Cal I go to Pomona to see the Winter Nationals and then again in November to see the Winston Finals, both those dates offer individual day ticket sales. The only differemce is that now the pit pass is included in the price of admission before you use to be able to buy seperate. Who the heck can afford to take 2 days off and spend all that cash? if that was the case I would wattch NHRA from my living room.

That's rediculous.. What are they thinking??
I can't beleive the difference in the "cost of living" between North and South.. Atlanta Dragway prices were a little more than 1/2 that.. I hope it's not a trend..

I agree. They'll go out of business with prices like that.

I only go to the drags once a year, at the Fun Ford Weekend, and the tickets cost $18/day, and I think that's too much. $10 would fill the stands and sell all sorts of concession stuff, in my opinion.

Brainerd is a beautiful facility, and i will tell you the reason, MONEY
Once a year there is the National event, people come from all over the midwest, and Canada for this event, reservations for hotel's are booked a year in advance.
for roughly one week during the year brainerd is over run with drag racing fans, most of who have travelled from a fairly long distance to get there, as a rule i think most people that go will be there for the weekend, the few that are turned away by the colonel mean nothing to them as there are 10 000 people behind you to take your place.

I am not saying this is really the right way to conduct business, but it seems to be the way things are handled at Brainerd.

Reason why they milk the national event for all its worth.

This was taken during the divisional race in June 01 during eliminations for Federal Mogul Dragster I guess they have got to pay for the track somehow, because from the fan count at this event they sure were not making any money.

Just for the record i dont agree with charging for the weekend withouthaving a day rate available is wrong but who am I?

From the picture, it looks like a great facility..
There are probably investers involved that want some returns and there are the racers that have to have winnings to stay afloat, but I say there is a smarter way to fill the bleachers

You have to look at the long run.

It's not entirely about making money!! It's about the furure of Dragracing.. I have noticed that attendance in the local track is also low..I don't know why, Maybe it's reached it's peak, maybe we didn't do a good job of keeping the next generation interested, but I do know this...

I am a business owner myself(18 yrs) and I have learned that you have to think towards the future.. For every customer that you can make happy, the returns will be multiplied many times over.. You have to give the newcomers that are "sampling" your business, a reason to return, and they will pass on their experiences to others.. This will guarantee future business and greater profits in the long run.. Doing something that might turn them away, before they know what you have to offer, is just...Bad Business.
If it was me, I would have left unhappy too!

Sorry, if I got carried away..
Long Live Dragracing!!

thats nuts, a huge ripoff.

When i went to Seattle i rode down with a couple guys going just Friday, others went just Saturday and still others just for Sunday, in those cases they woulda lost each of those customers if insisting on full-weekend only tickets
