It will be much easier (and cheaper) to go 10's with the 460. With a good set of heads, they can make some scary power. I'm helping a buddy build a 460 that's going into a pulling truck (semi-street) class. The weakest link in the engine's shortblocks seem to be the connecting rods. The cranks and blocks hold up well. The craziest thing about the rods, is that when they break, they break in the middle of the beam! Several guys have broken them, and all broke in the middle. I looked at one of them, and the big end looked perfect. Another weird twist is (and I don't really know the validity) is that they said the "truck" rod (football headed bolts) is more likely to break than the normal car rod. Go figure... These guys are really hard on parts. They put really heavy loads on those trucks. Your mileage may vary. I'd recommend using the stock crank and block along with a set of aftermarket rods. TRW makes a new lightweight flattop piston (with one valve relief) that seems to be a nice part. There are different deck heights in 429/460 blocks, so depending on which one you've got, you might need to cut up to 0.030" off the deck to get the piston right close to zero. I would try to get a pre-73 block, a D1VE if at all possible. I am currently building a 460 stroker (512") that I believe will run in the 9 sec zone. I agree you need a good set of aftermarket H beam rods.------------------ Russ Hood 70s Maverick S/Pro https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/SG236.html

So you can get away with using 2 bolt mains in the 460? David
