i think for close to $400 you should be able to get some gears, a spool and a decent cam for it. good luck mike r--capri man

Ron,
A PowerTrax Lock-Right ($225) and a 3.70 gearset ($130) would put you right in the ball park if you do it yourself.. I know you've heard it before, but you need to sell or trade the Carter carb to a Chebby guy.. It is good for street, but not an all-out performance SB Ford carb and is holding you back.. Been there.. Done that...

Definately needs more gear. That would be the first thing I would change. A 3.89 or 4.11 would make it seem like a completely different car.

Bluestreek, What size and model Carter did you use? engine combo ect. jets/rods and any other info? What carb are you useing now? I lost a ton of power when I tried a buddy of mines Carter. I thought it was because of the CFM differance, going from 780 to 650 CFM.

Also did your nickname come from Transformers "yes, the cartoon?"

I used the Edelbrock 600 #1405.. It was basically a Carter 625 CFM.. I tried it on my 289 with ported heads, RPM intake, cam and headers.. I ordered a calibration kit, jets, a pressure regulator, strip fuel pump, tried everything, even designed my own set of rods, but never got the secondaries to feel just right.. It also had a bad habit of bogging when I made a hard right turn for some reason.. I finally borrowed a Holley 600 from someone and I couldn't believe the difference it made.. It felt like a totally different engine when I floored it... I sold the Edelbrock to my nephew with a 318 Dodge and found me a used Holley 600 and later purchased a used Holley 650 and 750 DP.. With proper tuning, all my Holleys will run the same mph in the 1/4 mile, believe it or not.. I never tried a larger Carter because I was so disappointed with the 625..

I got the handle Bluestreek from my CB radio days.. It was given to me because of my Blue '66 Mustang..
