I have a bone stock 98GT with auto, and was wondering what the next logical steps are to make it faster. Does anyone have any experience with this motor (4.6 sohc), and what simple things have they done before they changed heads, rear-end gear ratio, or stall speed? Which items make the biggest impact? Thanks!!

I can't help you much with your question but I am curious where Amherst is. There is a local guy here that is switching to the 99 and up heads on his 98. I am not sure what exactly he has done but he is running high 12's on nitrous. He hangs out on stangnet and goes by NOSMOD98 I believe. What track do you run at? I am in Green bay, a fellow Wisconsinite.

check www.corral.net Modular forum, they have quite a few SOHC guys there... seems first mod is always gears, the SOHC likes to spin higher quicker than stock gearing allows.

Amherst is between Stevens Point and Waupaca on hwy 10. I go down to Union Grove, but want to check out the track in Appleton. I will look for that guy on the other site!

DON'T go to the track in Appleton. You will wait in line forever. I went with some buddies a couple of weeks ago to watch them run. They ran once between 6:30 and 10. Go to the GLD website for more on this. I have a reply to a post in the Racers corner forum. If you ever get up to green bay let me know.
