Hey everyone! I think I am ready to go ahead and get some new tires and wheels for the cougar for when take it to the track. I am curious as to what would be my best choice as far as tire size and brand. Also, as to wheel size and offset. I am thinking along the lines of 26 or 28 x9 on 15x8 or 15x8.5 wheels. would 4.5 offset be correct?

Thanks!

Are you looking for street legal tires or all out drag slick? As far as street legal's go I have the Mickey Thomson ET street's and they work great. I add some air pressure when I'm driving on the street and they drive real solid.

15 x 8 wheel of your choice with a 8.5 x 26.0 Mickey Thompson drag slick would be a PERFECT tire and wheel combo for you weekend warrior set up Tom. It would not kill the gears and give you optimum traction.

OK, thanks for the help guys!
I just ordered a set of 26x8.5 MT ET Drag's and 15x8 Centerline Telstar's to wrap them around! Got a pair of 15x4's for the front, too!

Gonna be nice, taking off those ancient flaking cragars...

Hi Tom,
I am running 275/60/15's Hoosiers on the back and 195/60/15's Hoosiers on the front with 15x8 cragar outlaws with 4.5 backspace on my 70 cougar. I am also using southside lift bars and they help big time. 351w, dart2 heads, 510/310 ([email protected]) fms cam, AOD, 3:73 posi. I can spin thru 1st,2nd, and chirp drive. I have never had it fast enough to see whata full throttle od shift will do but at 95 I'm only tacking 2600 in OD and a full throttle shift would bury the speedo I'm sure.

Thanks
John
