I'm going to buy a ford motorsports 302 crate engine 345hp gt-40. i have some questions about the parts i will need to install it in my 68 mustang. i already have a worn out 302 in it with a t-5 tranny and bellhousing. will the new motor and bellhousing work with this and the old clutch(centerforce 10inch less than 100miles on it) becasue i would like to keep the 50oz late model flywheel that it comes with and the 50 oz harmonic balancer. also i have questions about the water pump, distributor, fuel pump and switching to a serpintine belt setup withthte old style alternator. has anyone done this before. also will my old oil pan work or would the new one fit also. please help nciholas

Yes, it will bolt to the bellhousing, you'll need to buy the bolt-on stud for the clutch equalizer bar . You can use your old timing cover and old pan {you need to change the oil pickup} to keep the old style water pump and alternator setup. You may find this interesting: https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/007828.html ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '05 Mercury Sable LS 3.0L DOHC 24V Duratech V6

I have a cable clutch for the t5 so i dont need the clutch equilizer bar stud. Were do i find the oil pump pickup part. also will the latemodel oilpan fit in my mustang if i can just find a serentine belt setup from a recked car is this easy to do. i would be able to keep everything the way it is then and just put in the serpintine without changing the balancer or water pump. also how hard would it be to wire in a new style distributor in a 68 mustang.please help nicholas

nicholas, you can get the oil pump pickup tube new from most auto parts stores (Pep Boys, Autozone, etc) for about 7 bucks.

wouldn't the pickup from the old motor work on the new motor? or are the blocks different that he couldn't use the old pickup on his new brate motor.

Sounds like, if I'm not mistaken, that the motor is from a newer vehicle with the rear sump pickup. If this is the case, and you've got an early front sump oil pan, you can use it with the original pickup. Make sense?

If you get the crate engine with the front sump pan which I beleive is the EXPLODER pan it will fit you just have to change the dipstick or go to an early front cover with dipstick provision (What I did) then block off the block dipstick tube hole and the pan also or you can use your pan and pickup. I didn't have a stock pan as someone put a cleveland in my car before I got it. I went to a T5 with a cable clutch setup from Modern Driveline, no mods to clutch pedal just a hole in the upper firewall and plugged the original linkage hole. Just get a set of headers that allow better bolt lineup at the manifold flange I have dynomax ceramic and they suck! You may have to clearance the shifter opening maybe a 1/2 inch at the front to clear the T5 shifter. Your bell from the latemodel will most likely work with the flywheel, you may need a starter from a 92 or above Mustang though. You will also need a block plate to match the bellhousing starter combo you have. You will also have to plug the emission ports on the back of the GT40X heads do this before you install the motor. Best intake for street is a RPM air gap with a small Holley 600 or 650 DP if you want the performance and tuning capability of the DP. I got 270 RWHP with a stock 600 vac carb and absolutely no tuning. I put a set of 1.7 rockers (FROM Moneymaker) and put a 650 DP and had it dyno tuned it put down 308 RWHP in 95 degree weather. BTW you will need a roller cam distributor gear on your dizzy. I would get the B cammed crate engine not the E if you have some decent rear gears, ie 3.55 or higher mileage on mine on the highway is about 15-17 with 3.89 gears. Be ready for a serious seat of the pants improvement ie: FUN Factor! Email me if you have any other questions be glad to help.
