My '70's 351W is making a clacking sound, coming from top end it sounds, and gets faster as rpm's go up. Has good oil press, water temp is also okay. The engine has a lot of miles on it. Any ideas? I'm not too good when it comes to engine noises.------------------ Gary M.- '70 Mustang 63B (Deluxe SportsRoof)-my daily driver, '46 Ford pickup street rod, '46 Ford pickup street rod (the Mutt), '57 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Vic-waiting for resto-mod

It could be several things. Could be a lifter, or a rocker arm that needs to be adjusted, or even an exhaust leak. Does it have headers by any chance?

If you over reved it, a rocker could of jump of the push rod. Thats what happened to our 69.------------------ Dustin C "The Mopar Guy!" 56 F-100 Mech. for wifes 69 Mustang coupe 65 Plymouth Barracuda 70 Dodge Swinger

Nope, no headers yet. I'll look into all those things y'all said. It runs fine, well, except for the carb (diff story), so what ever it is, it's not affecting it immediatly.------------------ Gary M.- '70 Mustang 63B (Deluxe SportsRoof)-my daily driver, '46 Ford pickup street rod, '46 Ford pickup street rod (the Mutt), '57 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Vic-waiting for resto-mod

Gary dont wait to long to pull the valve covers and check the lash of the rockers.Look to make sure you dont have any broken springs too. My car makes a ticking sound the rockers or push rods or both are worn.I reset the lash and use 20-50 oil with a can of restore. It helps alittle, but when the car gets warm the noise comes back just not as loud. Check your exhaust system too. Were the exh manifolds go into the pipes.------------------ SCOOP 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html
