My old 2 row radiator is a little scaley inside and I could use some extra cooling. I was thinking about an electric fan but thought maybe I should start with the radiator.has anyone fitted a summit universal radiator to a 67 or 68 mustang? Mine has a 289 engine, and passenger side inlets and oulets. The core measures about 20 inches across the bolt holes are about 22 inches apart width ways. I also have an auto transmission (C4) and will need to cool it somehow. It looks like I either need to buy a really expensive made to fit style aluminum rad ($700), or stick with a copper brass style and go to a new 3 row. Thanks in advance Phil

You couldn't get your old radiator re-cored to a 4 row? I had a 4 row put in my '70, using the same tanks. Since it was the original tanks it fit perfectly. And it keeps my car nice and cool here in the hot Arizona summer temps. I'm not sure if this would work w/ the '67's though.------------------ Gary M.- 1970 Mustang Deluxe SportsRoof (daily driver), 1946 Ford pickup, 1947 Ford pickup, 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Vic

I lost my radiator during the rebuild and bought a new one from the local Mustang Shop. The 4 Core was under three hundred if I remember. The name of the Place is the Mustang Corral, 618-656-5428. They say they ship all over, but I'm local so I just had to fit all these parts in my Oldsmobile. (Which 4 pieces of my 68 Mustang's seats fit in at one time by the way)

I have been thinking about a shroud but I would prefer to go to an electric fan for the performance, this is also why I think 3 row might be better because it allows for the extra size of the electric. Bascially the feeling im getting is that there is no cheap way of getting an aluminum one...Im not keen on paying someone a lot of money to rod mine out or add rows because i think that costs more money than just buying new - most 3 row rads are about $190 although they dont have the original top tanks... I dont think im all that bothered about originality. Does anybody know exactly how much power each radiator can handle? Im thinking of stroking the engine in the distant future and dont really want to buy twice, maybe I Need a 4 row but just dont need it yet. I think Ill be satisfied if i ever make 300hp at the wheels with a 331 or 347 stroker. I wonder if a 3 row and electric fan is up to the job or if I need a 4 row or aluminum. Phil I know some one on here has used the Summit radiator.I remember reading they had to fab up some mounting brackets but other wise it worked good.Have you done a search on MM yet for Summit radiators? Phil your 68 uses a much wider radiator then my 65.But my 3 row is about maxed out now. I have to go out now and buy a 4 row if I would have got it the first, time I think you get point. I like my electric fan it did help alot.I my opinion my car would not run as cool without it.BTW the to have 3 row rodded out which I just did costs me $40.300HP at wheels is alot to me.I'd be dam happy with that too.I'd be lucky to have 190 at the wheels now. Here one I found,

Thanks Scoop, Now im thinking maybe I should just get a universal style radiator and then take my time over making it fit. Its the inline passenger side outlets that bother me, i just bought a new aluminum water pump with passenger side outlets and I havent fitted it yet. i dont want to have to buy a new one. I know 300hp at the wheels is lofty, but its a very long term goal. 200hp at the wheels is my near term goal but im setting myself up for a stroker with aftermarket heads and a mid duration cam. if I get 250 at the wheels but cant get more I would just stop there, but at least I would have a nice robust cooling system and fuel system and things would be reliable. Your 351 ought to be able to make 300 at the wheels someday too. thanks for the help, Ill go and look in summit again and think about this some more. If i go aluminum Ill let you all know how it goes. Phil ------------------ '68 coupe 289 C code 66 heads, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust

If your doing all of that, do add a tranny cooler too. The Bronco II's use a small one that will help, just run it in line with the radiators tranny cooler. I found the B II units for less that $14.------------------ Dustin C "The Mopar Guy!" 56 F-100 Mech. for wifes 69 Mustang coupe 65 Plymouth Barracuda 70 Dodge Swinger

You may also want to check out www.afco.com they are a race part distributor and have radiators for around $170. Also go to www.fordmuscle.com , they have an article where they took a tarus station wagon electric fan and put it into a 67 mustang.

The BII's coolers are good, and that comes from experience. We had an '88 since Nov '87. Drove it more than 500,000 miles, and never ever touched the trans, except for fluid. I thnk it was the cooler that kept the trans from crapping out. ------------------ Gary M.- 1970 Mustang Deluxe SportsRoof (daily driver), 1946 Ford pickup, 1947 Ford pickup, 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Vic

Smiths - they seem to be local to me.I will check them out, but im unsure as to what I need still. I feel like a big aluminum rad is overkill for a smallblock making 300hp. Surely a nice 3 or 4 row copper brass with an electric fan is fine? the 3+ row unit from NPD is 220 dollars and fits right in. How much power can it handle do you think? I think a transmission cooler is a good idea, assuming I get one where do most people mount them? do you mount it near the transmission or up in front of the radiator? There doesnt seem to be any rules of thumb or guidelines out there about this topic, If anyone can write a little article on this it would be great TIA ------------------ '68 coupe 289 C code 66 heads, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust
