ALL the chrome on my car is immaculate with the exception of the front bumper. It's arrow straight; I think it'd be a good candidate to be re-chromed, but I have no experiences with any plating companies/businesses. Anyone have anyone they'd suggest? What would it cost? Option #2, repops are reasonably priced... any comments on those?

Oh yea, the original would get wrapped up and put away if I go that route. Jeez, they're fairly inexpensive... not a bad idea to use one to take shopping cart beatings rather than a perfectly straight (but slightly faded) orginal FoMoCo piece. I haven't seen any of the repops up close, are they nice?

I agree with Ken, the repops of today are equal to or better than originals. Fifteen years ago I wouldn't have said that. The Nordan brand is very good. I think that is what NPD carries.

Ken, years ago I was junk yarding looking for a rear bumper, thought I had found the perfect one. Bought, took it home only to find out it was for a Maverick. Off the car they look identical.

Up here, rechroming a bumper is about $600.

Thanks, EPA!

I have a pair of Nordans from NPD waiting to go on my Mach and they look great.

MM's front bumber is the original and in great condition.
The original rear is long gone after an encounter with a drunk lawyer. (long story)
I have had several repops over the years.
Some good and some not so good.
The current one I have on the car is an original 65 that I found in a body shop.
I had it rechromed for $200 on a "deal" ten years ago. It looks concours.
These days the plating shops make sooooo much money off of the Harley and street rod guys, that they don't even car to do real car parts anymore. When they do it's very expensive. I think that I still have a decent repop laying around that I took off MM when I had it painted and installed the replated one. I'll look.

The originals are fair better and thicker. The repos look great, but are a little weaker than I would like. I have repos on front and back of the 69.

Just a couple of points ...
I've been told that if you can see waves in the existing chrome (undulations in the surface) it's probably been badly rechromed before and won't look any better after rechroming again. Sam will know more.
And for 67/8 rear bumpers, the originals are not straight, but I've heard the repops are. I don't know if that's a problem with other years.
Personally, I don't plan on rechroming any bumpers 'cos they're gonna get hit sooner or later.

Todd, if you really want to have a re-chromed front bumper you can check out the mustang place that is on Batavia ( I think), by the railroad tracks. I remembered that he was selling rechromed originals, with a trade in. Of course, they probably aren't date correct for the car...but it is an original. Mustang Monthly did an article in '96 I think, comparing original, repop, and NOS. They said that repop were good, not as good as orig, but fairly good, and Nordan's were the best of them. Just wanted to throw out some ideas.
