Gentlemen.,presumed you just read previous message (re:351)..After driving my car for about 40-50 miles., and park...anti-freeze runs out the over-flow tube., I have tried to NOT overfill since...Does this engine run hotter than normal, or do I need a radiator job/or a new one..I will not sit here and guess., You guys have been the experts all along this forum..I will always take your word/advise....thanks.......db..(66GTw/351W

What temp does the car run at now?
180 stat should work fine. But what shape is the Rad in.What type of fan do you use.Is your timing advanced?

Radatr seems to look and curulation is good., I do not have a fan., I think (perhaps) a shroud would be 'good'. Temp runs on cool side., but if I sit in traffic for a while, it will creap up to, say 'center' mark...I will lean toward a 160 thermo...thanks...

No fan or shroud??? That's what you need right there. Not one or the other, but both. Solve your cooling problems all at once

We 'stangs' don't have the reserve bags/bottles like th newer cars, right... You sure are up early this AM., its only 8;10 est here in carolina...take care big guy..later..DB., I thought I had a little 289., come to find out this week., its a 351..no wonder it 'scats'... thnaks

Its easy enough to add a little overflow tank somewhere.Go through the wreckers and find a little one thats to your liking and hide it somewhere on the car.I believe you also need a newer style radcap to work with this system.By the way have you tried a new radcap? That may be your trouble right there.Of course a fan is pretty much a necessity. If your car runs that cool without one I would install an electric fan just for those times your caught in traffic.

I love Canada., I was fishing once there., and these pesky black bugs., they saw me., and said,"Are we going to eat him here, or take him with us?" Thanks, I will get me a new Rad cap., and reserve..not alot runs out just say 1/2 pint., which looks like horrors when its running out...take care

You really need a fan. I'm surprised it doesn't boil over without one. Also a shroud will really help you keep the temps down. Seriously without those two, you'll be in big trouble once it warms up outside. If you have a gauge hooked up, I'm sure it's reading pretty high already. Be careful, overheating will wipe an engine in no time.

I can not believe that you do not have a fan on your car, count yourself lucky that you have not cooked the engine. I really doubt that you need a 160 stat a fan and shroud will be all that you need, I am also very sure that when you install " BOTH " of them you will not need a recovery/reserve tank for your rad. Just a question out of curiosity and no disrespect intended, but why do you not have a fan?

Why Not?(fan)..Well JOhn., I was one of three people in my city to buy a 65, 2 of them over a few years., and one 66..These auto's never had a fan or shoud..It really was never a thought., and none of them ever run hot..none of them., in fact, a buddy of mine still has his orig 641/2 pony., and has not at anytime had a "boil"...that is the real reason I was so curious too, about all this heating-up of these engines..Has the weather changed that much...its still a puzzle to me., and I do appreciate your questioning..., Hey, I am just as surprised as anyone., being a faithful Mustanger..and again, a big thanks for your time and comments..I do take them to heart..DB

I know the sixes didn't have shrouds, but I'm positive they had fans. I never messed with the early Mustangs, but I've worked on thousands of cars and I don't remember any water cooled engines without fans.

Steve., believe me...I do appreciate all your remarks., it has really helped me catch up on the mustang problems., 'cause back in '65'66 we just ran them til they dropped...and just got them worked on., never a question about, the reason they broke.,I can, and I am surely not, in front of the M&M group and the world saying 65'66 'never' had fans... I just never saw one..there are 4 in town., I am going to see them this week and peek under...you know., check it out..i'm curious too... send me a 5 lb lobster.... i'll send you a gal of moonshine..(now that will start an engine on a cold morning...) don
