i have a 9" rear axle on my 69 with the limited slip. i would like to have both wheels turn instead of just one. i heard there is something that can be put in there to make both wheels turn but im not sure what it is. what is it?? where do i get one and about how much will it cost me? also what will this affect if i change it? is it better or worse on traction? gas mileage difference? im not sure. just trying to get some info to decide wheather or not to do this.

not sure if this is what your talking about but there one called a spool or mini spool that basically locks both axles so the both pull all the time, upside great traction in straight lines, down side, both tires are turning at same speed all the time, when you make turns pending on how sharp your inside tire will chirp the hole time because it turning same as outside, you may end up facing the wrong way and if it's raining you might want to consider staying at home, these are mainly for drag racing, a better choice would be a detroit locker, if offers best of both worlds it's locked when going straight and it slips when your turning allthough i have heard they do make clicking sounds when you turn, one last choice that i'm aware of, auborn locker, these preety much will only spin posi but may slip, with auborn lockers and evn your limited slip they both can be shimmed to lock up better, cost spools 100-150,auborn 350-450, detriot 400-500, none of these will change feul milage, hope this helps a bit, for a daily driver or one that see little strip action i would go with the auborn locker just my .02

It's an open rear you have a non liminted slip.

To check for a working limited slip, put the car in neutral, raise one wheel, put a torque wrench on the raised wheel, and it should take at least 25 lbs to make the wheel turn.
