I've seen everything from hot pink to flat black. If you could have any color what would it be.I saw alot of yellow motors last year.It just does not look right to me.

For me it's semi gloss black. It's easy to keep up.And looks great with alittle chrome here and there.

My pops might do the 351w in his T-bucket a real deep purple.

Dark Ford blue for me, baby! #224 PlastiKote Ford Blue, or 1606 Duplicolor Dark Ford Blue. I also have had a few engines gloss black, that looked nice against chrome and aluminum.

If you look at my pictures, it has to be gloss black with the aluminum and chrome accent.

But I had a tough time breaking from that dark ford blue!

In my street cars I like them good old Ford blue, and not that light blue crap either.

In my racecar, gloss black. A cleveland painted black with a little chrome for accent shore is a purty sight.

Ford blue # 224 is my favorite. Had gloss black on my 65 GT. The local Mustang slop, I mean shop, did a red 65 GT cpe with a killer paint job. Then the guy paints the engine with 1613 Krylon semi flat! Looks like sh*t! Gave some thought to painting the engine cmpt body color in resto mod style, but quickly snapped out of the idea-it's too Moparish!!! Perish the thought! My starter would probably go EEk-EEEk-EEEK like a Mopes!!! Disgusting!

BLACK!

It doesn't show the crude build up that will happen in time. And it accents the chrome/polished aluminum goodies on top.

I can see where a thin, Flat Black would be the best color at helping dissipate engine heat, but it also would NOT be as good at being able to notice small oil or coolant leaks....

Does anyone know what color the NASCAR guys paint their engines?

Black (65 came with black). That is what I am going with, black and aluminum heads, radiator.

Red would be cool (matches my car). Red looked really good in the Car Craft a while back where they put an Edelbrock dual quad intake on a 302.

Dark Ford Blue in any other case.

I am shocked that nobody has said this yet.

The "Electric Booger" Yes, the engine is all that color except for the accessories, water pump (alum), and the valve covers (polished originals) .

i like the ford blue also. but since my mach 1 is going to be cherry red, i painted my block cherry red to match it. it has nice chrome accesories to contrast it and it looks great!! but if my car wasn't going to be red, i would probably paint the block blue or black.
