I bet Alex wins this one. It's been since December 18, 1977 for me with my Sprint. A while ago I came across a NPD slip for Feb. '78.

Well, My 71 Mach was bought new by my dad, and given to me two years later. I also have my mothers 73 hardtop that she bought new.
The 73 has only tecnically been 'mine' since 1990, but the 71 was titled and registered in my name in late 72, and has been ever since.
Are there any true 'original' owners of a classic 'stang out there?

I just inherited my grandfather-in-law's 1966 mustang which he bought new at Redlands Ford in So Cal in December 1965. He has (I have) all the paperwork, original plate(s), and 36 years of reciepts, some of which make me cry. He is 94, but lost his license last year at 93 (he is completely deaf and loses his way...).

My cousin and I were just talking about this the other day, about how many people we know who had killer street/drag cars and then did the pro street tubbed thing in the late 80's or early 90's. Then when they tired of it just sold it off, if it had been left as a stock body they could have restored them and still been enjoying them as street cars again.

BTW, Chris never tubbed his 67 fastback, and still owns it, he bought it in January of 1978 for $500 and drove it home, it was his daily driver/weekend dragracer until 1983, dragracer only until 1991. He is currently freshening the 428PI and the suspension to get it roadworthy again. The last time the car was out of the garage (several years) it won First in it's class at the World of Wheels car show.

"Technically" I have personally owned MM since 1970.
But, it's been in my family since new so you all have to decide this one.
It's either almost 33 years or 38 years.

I bought my first 'Stang ('69 coupe w/19K miles, 302, A/T) when I was 16 in '74. I sold it in '82 (after putting on 100K+ miles)..... owned it 8yrs.

I bought my '69 Mach in '81.... I still have it (have NEVER put a lic. plate on it)... 22yrs & counting.

I bought my '65 F100 in '80.... I still have it (speedo is broke)..... 23yrs & counting.

I bought my '85 5.0 Mustang GT (convertible) in '93 (with 30K miles).....still have it (now has 66K miles).... 10yrs & counting.

Another way to look at it: I bought my '69 MACH & '65 F100 BEFORE my 2 teenage sons were even born - The race car and the tow truck have outlasted my marriage, 3 different employers and me moving 5 times...from TX to MI. So you can call me what you want, but KNOW this -- I'll still be here, happily wrenchin' on my FoMoCo's long after many folks have quit "Playing with Cars"....

Technically, I'm the third owner of Miss Stang. Her first owner took delivery three hours before her nephew, Wesley, was born. He became the second owner and restorer. We bought Wesley's aunt's car with money we inherited from John's aunt on my uncle's 90th birthday in the city his daughter lives in. So, come March 5th, we will have had the car five years.

Anni - I'm the second owner of her - been l year and four months now.

Here is the old story again, June 1972, I traded my 70 Boss 302, which I bought new in Dec 69, for my first wife and a 70 6 cylinder automatic Maverick. I should have kept the Boss and never made the deal. A week later I got my 65 K-coupe, second owner. Eleven years later the wife, a Maverick, and I parted. I kept the Mustang. So I've owned it for 30 years eight months

The second wife of twelve years is a keeper, I'm smarter this time, she has two Mustangs and I only have one.

Six years in my garage, but my GT has been in the family since '83. I was 12 when I first snuck it out for a joyride

I took my driver's licence test in that very car

I drove that very car to my high school prom

My car was originally bought by the head designer of the mustangs. He willed it to his grandson 3 or 4 years ago. His grandson restored it and I bought it. I bought it last summer. So I guess I'm technically the 3rd owner and it's been in 2 families.

I got my 70 fastback in 1976, my aunt wanted to trade it for a Maverick but my Dad bought it outright. He bought it in '74 but I shined on it so much I finally talked him into letting me drive it around part time. Then I just sorta moved into it. He got over on the Van thing and we were both happy. We sorta spent a few hours restoring Mom's 63 Galaxie, which he drove like he stole it. Dad was a NASCAR wanna be. He hates drag racing to this day. Won't even acknowldege it exists. But he can name the whole starting line up of Winston cup boys all the way back to when Lee Roy Yarbourough was racing. I think I got off subject here but that's not unusual.

So your dad likes getting dizzy.
I must admit, I also enjoy looking at old films and pics of the glory days of Nascar when the cars were all real cars.

I'm another one of the "in the family" posts. My '68 was bought new by my Grandad for my mom. I bought it from him when I was 15 (which was in 1984). I drove through high school then parked it for about 13 years. The restoration happened many times in my imagination before last year I finally stepped up and actually did it (or am in the process of finishing it anyway). This doesn't compare to many of you "old timers" but I figure the fact that I was cruising around in this car before I could walk, talk, or had been house trained has to count for something.

My 1970 grande was bought by my great grandparents in 1970 they were probably in their early fifties then. I just bought it from my great grandma last summer. I guess being only 17- almost 18 i have a little different perspective than you other guys who grew up with these cars. Its wierd sometimes when i think about it- i drive around in a car almost twice my age.

Unfortunately, it isn't mine, but a friend has 5F08F100112 that was built the 1st day of production and the 1st conv sold in Florida. He bought it new and still has it. He also has a 66 GT conv that was built the very last day of 66 production and he bought it new, also. My 64 1/2 was built Aug 13, and I'm the 2nd owner, but it's nowhere as long as Larry has had his!
