On my '70 Stang ragtop, The rims are 15" X 7" Magnum 500's, the tires I'm contemplating are BFG Radial TA's 255/60/15. They are 27.1" tall and 8.2" wide. At the same time I will change gears to either 3:55 or 3:73 after I play with the software. These tires should fit by my rough measurements, does anyone have this size or can direct me to a photo of a car that has? Other opinions?
Thanks,
Dave

I dont think they will. Here's a thread from earlier this week about tire/wheel size.

Those tires will fit in the rear easily.
That chart is good for picking front wheels and tires.

Sounds like about the same size as F-60 15's to me.

So... will they work on the front? I have manual steering! Or should I go to 225/60/15 on the front?

I wouldn't go bigger than 225/60/15. Sometimes even that size will rub.

I run 215/60/15 because I don't have PS.

Jeez, Darkhorse, I drool everytime I see your car! I take it you mean that the 225/60/15 will rub on the front? I suppose I don't need a lot of tire on the front anyway, but am hoping to get about eight inches of rubber on the ground at the back.
Thanks,
Dave

Don't forget to check the back spacing on the wheels they are going on. Darkhorse has almost the EXACT size tires I just ordered wheels for. Up front I'm using 3 3/4 inch back space, in back 4 3/4.

Imagine the wheel well lip rub if you're wheels are sticking out an inch too far.

I talked to a guy at a car show and he told me 225's of one brand didn't rub but the brand on the car at the time did rub. We were talking about the front of a '68.

The BFG Drag TAs on the back of my car will rub with any offset. They have a 10" wide tread. They are over 11" wide at the sidewall. I picked these tires after seeing a fox-bod stand on it's bumper with them.

If stiffer springs don't stop the rub, I will go to the next smaller tire. I think the 235 DTA has 8" wide tread.

Keep in mind the Drag TAs have a wider tread than the Radial TA's of the same size.

245/60/15 Radial TA is 8" wide @ tread x 26.6 tall.

I know for a fact that the 69-73 sportsroofs have more room in the rear than 68. I don't know if that is true for 69-70 coupes and verts.

My Magnum 500's are stock Ford items. I put the car up on jackstands and bolted the rims on and measured all around. The back has tons of clearance and I am leaning towards 255/60/15. The fronts are harder to measure but I have 620 springs and a 1" bar. Manual steering so possibly 225/60/15. I'm just having difficuly visualizing the car with both narrower and lower tires on the front and if it will look OK. I'm not sure of the difference in clearance between a '68 and a '70 but my car sits high and firm.
