I have seen these single rods that hook on the shock towers that go from one to the other across the motor.Would that help my alignment? My front wheels look like they spread out on the bottom.Even when I get them align. Thanks,Tony

i dont know if it will help your wheel alignment, but it does improve structural stability up front. also helps your shock towers from sagging.

i read it on a link i got from here about putting a 351W in a 66. they say you have to go buy some jig and spread your shock towers apart or the engine wont fit . it dont make much sense to me either, but i guess it's possible.

Have you ever noticed that some people don't respond to questions.
Why do you think that is ?

When I got my front align 1 1/2 ago the tech told me that he maxed out something to align my wheels. So I thought since the shock towers are connected to the upper A frame if you pushed the shock towers apart it would push out the top of tires and bring the bottom of the tires in.Does this make sence or I`m I styming out

As Mr Trash stated, the Monte Carlo bar when combined with the Export brace will assist in keeping everything in the proper location. Over the years the shock towers will sag to the inside and you might have to spread them to get the bar in, but once it is in, it will keep the towers from sagging. Your alignment problem could be the cause of the shock towers. Have you changed any of the front suspension, like the lower control arms? Are there any threads showing on the two nuts that hold the upper control arms to the shock tower?

Mike

Usual problem is shock towers sag inward causing wheel camber to go negative. Alignment techs compensate for this by adding shims to the upper "A" on '65/'66 or by rotating the eccentric on later cars. Note that adjustment is on upper arm on '65/'66 and on lower arm on later cars.

Monte carlo bar (straight rod) placed between the shock towers helps correct this problem but the root problem should be fixed first. Usually corrosion in the frame rail or holes drilled in the shock tower to access lube points cause the towers to bend, sometimes just hard use does it over the years. A frame shop will straighten the frame rails provided they're not corroded and often weld a reinforcement in place. Then adding the monte carlo bar will keep it there.

An export brace is good but is primarily aimed at increasing body rigidity for higher horsepower application. It helps maintain the cowl/fender clearances when you're romping on that 351w which your '66 was never designed for.
