I have installed a Pertonix II ignitor and flame thrower coil in my 289 67 mustang. I had seen someone suggested to bypass the resistor wire for the engine to run better. Is this correct and if so how and where do you do the by pass, Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Barry

Barry,Check out the Ignition section in the archives on the bottom of the main forums page. It talks about the pertronix, and the resistor wire. Hope it helps! https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Archives/Archive-000016/HTML/20001110-1-002314.html Nick

Yep, with the pertronix 2 you have to have a full 12 volts for it to work right, unlike the first ignitor. What I did is I just ran a new wire from the coil to the ignition wire under the dash by the switch and taped that wire in before the resistor, and taped of the resistor wire by the coil and hooked the coil up to the new wire, and it has ran great and trouble free for 200 miles. The reason I leave the old wire in there is it powers something else to, but I can't remember what. We had disconnected mine but something didn't work until we hooked it back up. I think it may have been the gauges but I can't say for sure. Brandon. I also matched mine with the flamethrower 2 coil as it has a higher output and a better spark than the first coil.------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 302 with 600 holley, aluminum intake, headers, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. Yes, just thought Id add my extra 2 cents. You do need to bypass the resistor wire. I also suggest taping the wire beside the old, although in theory you should just run that way I suggest installing a switch so you can switch back to points should the igntion module fail. Take points+condensor and a set of hardware and a screwdriver in the tool box in case the module fails (they seem to fail on some cars - mine in particular)
