for a '69 Mach 1. The car looks stock on the outside, but under the hood is a different story. It's got a built 351C, TCP braces, etc. Just for kicks it's got a blue bottle in the trunk for an extra 150-250 hp if needed. I need a lot more rubber in the back to keep from repaving the road. Hence the need for new rims.I want to keep the sleeper look so I planned on sticking with a proper vintage design. There are plenty of Torq Thrusts out there so I'm staying away from 5 spokes (which really limits my vintage options). I'm leaning toward the Vintage 50s, but wanted to solicit some input. This is the last thing I need on the car after 6 years of restoration. Bring on the ideas...

I really like the stock 68 GT rims (also for Torinos, and something else?). I know they're only 14", but there's a custom place (someone put the link up here once) that does 15" and maybe bigger.

Some old 'Crager SS' style rims, or maybe some good ole' slotted dish aluminum style would look properly 'vintage'.

The "Mini-Lites" look really tough for a vintage style wheel. There is a Boss 429 Clone that I drive by all the time with these wheels, and wow, does it look killer!Tom

You can't go wrong with the Crager SS. I had those on a car 30 years ago, and they still look just as great on cars today. Of course they come in a lot of different widths and rim sizes today.

How about 15" Magnums -wider in rear. If they would fit, the new MachI "magnum" wheels would be sharp.

Sleeper look,I say go with stock steel rims which you can get in different sizes, with dog dish hubcaps.Otherwise I say stock 69 mach rims maybe in a custom size,Later.

Hey Dustin: I've been looking for a pair of non-cracked, non-dented, nice slotted dish aluminum rims to put on my '69FB. The size I'm looking for is 10" X 15" with a 5.0" backspacing. If you think you could locate a pair of these, I'd be interested in buying them from you.....I'd like to get a pair by the end of April. Ryan

I had a '69 Mach at one time that I put 5-spoke "daisies" or "coke bottle" rims on. I think they were made by American and were just a bit different looking than the Crager SS and really looked awesome on that body style. ------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

I like the magnum 500's on stock daily driver type 69/70 Mustangs. Get magnum 500s. I think that they can be had in 15 x 10 like the 65 66 styled steel wheels. They look just like the original magnums.

There is a website that allows you to pick different model cars and different wheels so you can visualize the look. I think it is by one of the big wheel and tire guys in the back of one of the popular car mags like Motor Trend.

The Magnum's are a great looking wheel, no doubt. Unfortunately, with the proliferation of high-quality reproductions in just about every size imaginable, they seem to be on every old Ford I see. Kinda' takes away some of the 'special-ness' for me. This is the reason I won't be putting them on either of my convertibles. I don't know yet what rims I will use, but I want the cars to look a little unique, but still 'authentic'. My favorite old=style rim is the good ole' slotted dish aluminum mag. Visually, it's a great rim. The deep-dish looks right on these cars, the holes (slots) give the wheel a great contrasty look, and they help to give the wheel a good easily seen 'motion' llok when they are rolling. That's the reason I don't care for blackwall tires on a car: It doesn't promote a real visible 'motion' effect when the wheels are turning. When a blackwall or a whitewall tire is on a rim, or wheel who's hubcap is flat with no features, there doesn't seem to be a lot of noticeable 'motion' when the car is moving. A nice contrasty rim (like a Magnum) and raised white lettered tires make for a real visual look when the car is moving. My most hated rim of all time is the original 'Centerline' style. No real prescence when moving because there are basically no 'contrasty' features on the rim. Most of the rims today are of the 'overstyled first, and no thought or care as to functionality' design, and for that reason they mostly do not appeal to me. To me the slotted dish rims fit into the 'form follows function' mentality, and their look kind of promotes the 'performance first, style second' idea. Those are the style of rims on my 'Starsky & Hutch' Torino, even though it came from Ford with the fake 'Magnums w/trim rings.' My car is correct as far as the TV show car is concerned. Ford's 'Limited Edition' (Starsky & Hutch) version was a replica of the original TV car, after all. To me a good rim has got to have a great 'contrasty' look when sitting still, and must still have a good 'motion' look when it is moving. I used to have a 72 Hurst/Olds convertible (great car!) and those Olds 'Rally Rims' are one of my all-time favorite factory rims. Of course, these are just my own personal opinions, and I seem to have contradicted myself a little here. Bottom line is: It's your car, use a little fore-thought, do some 'research', and pick something that excites you first, everyone else second, and you can't go wrong! I think the rims have to fit the look of the car too. I have always liked the SS rims the best. But the auto drags look great on that FB. 10-4, Dustin! I'll be waiting to hear from ya..... If you can, shoot me a pic of the one you have; just to be sure we're 'on the same page' with the slotted dish aluminum rims......Remember, I'm looking for a pair of 10" X 15" with a 5.0" backspacing. Thanks! Ryan

Dustin C: I'm sorry to confuse ya..... To re-state more clearly: I'm looking for them to be 10" wide (inside the bead to bead) and use a 15" tire. Don't forget I need them with the correct backspacing - with 5.0" of backspacing.... Which is defined as: Backside setting/Back spacing - The measurement from the mounting pad to the inner edge of the wheel. Thanks! Ryan
