What do you all have for exhaust on your street motors? You'all a fan of the quiet sleeper exhaust or like the rumble?I have a 10-1 351W with a 268 Dual Energy Comp Cam and PFR RPM Intake so I'm sticking with 2 1/2 inch pipes with a crossover tube for balance. I think I'm going to have some glass packs put on. I've had them in the past so I'm sure I can live with the noise and I'm sure I'll love it when I'm on the throttle.

I like the rumble myself. Some glass packs sound better then others.I like the sound of Flowmasters or a good turbo muffler. With 10.1 351w and if you have some good flowing heads. You could even go with an 3" exh. What ever you do make sure the system is all mendrel bent Alum tubes only.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

Flowmaster makes a nice mandrel bent system for the 65-73 Stang & Cougar. Their spec says 65-66, but the chassis is virually identical for the first gen, so worry not about it fitting. I like glasspacks as well, but the modern mufflers such as Flowmaster or Hooker Aerochamber are a better flowing muffler. The three mufflers that I would possibly use in order of loudest to quietest: Flowmaster, AeroChamber, Super Turbo.

I have 2-1/4" three chambers they are not loud unless your at WOT. I'd like to get a pair of 2.5 or 3" two chambers. I think they will flow better when I put my long tube hedders on.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

I have two glasspacks and I love the deep rumble sound they make. Was a teenager in the fifties and that was the sound back then, brings back great memories and my 289 really brings out that great sound.

I'm running Flowtech "afterburners" and am very happy with the sound.Has a healthy rumble but not too loud unless you stand on it.I hate the snappy sound of most glasspacks.I had a thrush muffler on a 69 Montego once with a 250 6 banger. At about 50mph the resonance was so bad I thought the top of my head would blow off

I have 2 chamber Flo's on my 87 (always liked that Flowmaster sound)and a pair of Dynomax polished stainless Ultra Flo's on my 65 which are pricey, but sound great (a bit louder than super turbos)and look good too. Hey Ken, how's it going? Leave those Flowmasters alone - your car sounds awesome with that motor and the 2 chamber attitude!------------------ 1965 K-code coupe 1987 LX 5.0 notch

After all this, I decided to go with the Flowmasters. Even though St. Louis has been good to me in the past, I only got one noise ticket in five years of glass pack cruisin'

It was recomended to me to use two different size glasspack mufflers to cut down on the resonance. I have a 27" and 30" glasspacks. Besides am retired and take an afternoon nap once in a while and my teenaged grandson likes to come over and take my Mustang out at times when I am napping. Doesn't get away with that much with the glasspacks. [This message has been edited by beachbum (edited 01-08-2003).]

On my 429 I have 2.5" stainless going into 3-chamber Flowmasters, and 3" stainless coming out. I also have a 'H-pipe'. This exhaust is quiet enough so it won't drive you crazy when cruising around. It actually is a little quieter than what most expect from a 400+ horse big-block. When you crack the throttle just a tiny bit more than normal driving speed, it starts to 'chat-up' the neighboring cars and heads start to turn. When you really stick your foot in it, it sounds like Friday night in Valhalla! At full throttle, it has that big-block boat-motor sound. That's how my friends describe it anyway.

All you fellas build all this power and try to quiet it down. This is how I break it down.If you've got a stock to mild concourse car, keep the stockers or go with turbos. If you've got a mid to wild HP car and it's driven a few times a week, let people know who's boss!! Go with some beastly mufflers. If you've got a mid to wild sleeper, quiet them down of course with some turbo mufflers. If you've got a race car, do what you gotta do and open'em up!! Right now i'm in my cruising "break-in" stage and I love to hear my solid lifters and loud mufflers!! But once the engine is broken in and i'm confident, the super turbos will be welded in per Alex's suggestion !! Just me... Always wanted to do the sleeper thing but never could do w/o the noise I like. Since I mount the radial T/A's black wall out I think I should trace a thick white line around them This time I went w/o the "H" pipe. the last flowmaster set up I had kept pulling apart at the "H" and the welded glass pack "H" before that just didn't seem to make a difference worth the trouble.

I have a 65 fastback 351W, Windsor Sr heads rollercam, etc ~350 RWHP. I am running mandel bent 2=1/2 and flowmasters. Its not quiet but a huge hp increase (25HP) on my gtech. My old system was 2" dual with noname turbo mufflers and the factory trumpets. I expected that my old system was quite restrictive so first I just cut the pipes behind the old turbos and it picked up abou 10HP, then i went to mandrel bent and the flow masters and it picked up another 15Hp.

I have two glasspacks with a nice deep rumble that reminds me of the old fifty's & sixties sounds. It really sounds great to me with the 289.
