A few of the facts were wrong, but they did an interesting overview of the Mach 1 story and a road test on the '03 Mach 1.Just ignore that BLOWHARD Brock Yates! "The Mach 1 never did anything for me..." {He's more of a pastel honda type of guy} ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, and MyFordPerformance.com.

No, no relation to Jim Yates. Brock Yates is a blowhard writer that turns his nose at both the Mustang and the Lightning pickups. He's also the screwball behind the Cannonball Run. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, and MyFordPerformance.com.

Yeah I caught a bit of that today.I though that "Brock" was kidding when he said he didn't like the shaker because it really served no purpose and blocked his view.I kept waiting for the punchline as he was slamming the mach and when there wasn't any I realized he was serious. Why interview someone who doesn't like the car?

He also thinks the Lightning is "...the most ridiculous thing Detroit ever came up with." Total blowhard. I think he believes everyone should drive Stultz Bearcats or something. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, and MyFordPerformance.com.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I watched it this morning, I thought it was pretty good. I also thought Brock yates had a ricer piston up his a$$ the way he was standing there leaning on the 03 Mach 1 and bad mouthing it. His comments were from a guy that does not know history when he see`s it and the comment about the hood-scoop being just a marketing tool pi$$ed me off. I then looked at the source and thought, the guy is just a ricer Wanna-bee. Not everything about the Mach 1 is great, but Yates trashed it for no good reason. If he can,t see over the hood scoop when he is driving the car, sit on a few phone books or better yet, turn over the key`s to somebody who can appreciate some real muscle car history and nostalgia. I can,t figure out how he fits his fat a$$ behind the wheel of a ricer JOHN

Brock Yates is an a**hole! The shaker IS a merketing device, but so what? Just because the car would be just as fast with a more sedate and inconspicuos cold-air system doesn't mean it has to be made in the most visually boring way possible! Is Yates trying to say that when a clever marketing idea comes up which will satisfy customers and help sell a few more cars that it should not be used? Are Ford and other manufacturers supposed to try to NOT market thier product? If you think about it, isn't every single facet of a vehicle's design a marketing device? It seems as though Mr. Yates is trying to say that the new Mach 1 would be better suited in his opinion if it was designed NOT to appeal to the very people who desire such a car. I think Yates has been sitting in his garage with the engine running and the garage door closed while reading his own articles too much. That combination would cause anyone to suffer retardation. And I have alwys thought he was the biggest retard around the car biz.

The only thing I do with (Foreign)Car & Driver or Road & (Yuppie)Track is snag the times from their road tests so I'll know who owns what when I'm driving through the land of white flight in westen St. Louis County.

Relax guys Auto journalists think that if they say something controversial, they'll become famous. Just last week I was watching BBC's Top Gear with Britain's own full-of-himself auto journalist Jeremy Clarkson. He did a review of car designers, and in the bottom category - the "Totally Uncool" category - along with little Hyundai people carriers and what have you, was the PT Cruiser. He can only have been trying to piss people off! I know some people hate the PT Cruiser, but he knows damn well that many people, myself included, think the PT Cruiser is a true groundbreaker (albeit retro) in terms of styling.

Whether the Shaker serves a purpose or not is secondary to the marketing fact that Mustangers like it. Ford doesn't necessarily have to produce Mach 1's for the general public, they manufacture them for a select few, and hopefully draw in a few others to support their marketing scheme. BTW, I haven't heard from anyone who has paid less than sticker price for the 03 Mach......------------------ http://www.classic-mustang.net/ReadersRides/glenwren3.jpg

Im pretty sure that guy isnt actually an Auto Journalist. Ive seen him on lots of other shows including gun shows. I think they hired him for the combination of his Ned flanders lookalike status and his imposing voice. I have heard a lot of crap come out of his mouth I think he mostly loves expensive German cars, and like a lot of auto journalists he likes to bash detroit products.Which reminds me... the new mustang is going to be unveiled in detroit at the auto show, today apparantly.

:0 Oops just watched the show Looks like i should have watched the show. The guy I was thinking of was on the Old car and driver TV shows. Brock Yates does appear to be the editor of the real Auto magazine, but man does he not like that shaker. I think it looked good.

PT Cruiser...German owned company, built in Mexico....is a fine looking car, but....well heck when someone tells me the Neon plant pays $15 an hour and meets U.S. pollution standards I'll be able to hold it even with an American built Honda Accord.
