I have a 625 carter carb. and it bogs a little when I take of in first gear. I have changed the spark plug wires and reset the timing but it still bogs. It still runs great after the bog. When I first put the 302 in my car in August I got on it pretty good and when I hit 2nd it started missing for a minute. I have a cheap electric carter fuel pump and I figured I just run it dry. How do I adjust the screws on the front of carb?Anything else I should look at? The two screws at the front of the carb are the idle circuit adjusters... most accurately tuned with a vaccum gauge (you can do it by 'ear' too ). Turn one screw in at a time until the rpm's come up as high as they will. Keep turning until the motor starts to stumble, and then back it out 1/2 to 3/4 turn. Repeat for the other screw. I think there's an accelerator pump adjustment too... the rod can seat into one of two different holes. You might try the other hole, see if it improves your off-idle response/performance ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

How to adjust a Jimmy Carter carb for best results by Alex:1) Remove carb 2) Throw it as far as you can, or launch it with a catapult, or, mount on garage wall as a target for pistol shooting practice. 3) Replace with Holley or Autolite 4100 of your choice. 4)Enjoy trouble free high performance driving ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Are there jet's (like in a Holley) that you can up size and down size on these? I have a freind that has one on a Cobra kit car that is way over fueled... I can not get it to lean out. i had to kick the timming up just to keep it from loading up. the best i can get on the vac guage is 15".... thats sad... I can get at least 21 on my boss at 600 rpm with a holley. Rene

They too have screw in jets for big changes; smaller changes can be made by swapping metering rods and step-up springs ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

Tony I used a carter 625 for over 4 years. It never ran right no matter what I did. I leaned the choke all the way.And that seemed to help my carb. When I put the used a Holley 600cfm on.My car runs better then ever gets better gas milage, and runs stronger.SCOOP ------------------ oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html
