Is the Cruise o matic tranny, basically a weak C-4? Can it take some abuse ? Are they completely different trannys ?
Wasn't the FMX based on the cruise o matic?
Thanks.....seems my '66 has the Cruise o Matic. (Or did all the early stangs have them?)

CoM is junk Eddie. It's a 1950's Borg Warner design transmission that was adapted to most makes at one time or another. FoMoCo bought the tooling in the early 60's and continued to use it as they developed the C-4 and C6.
It makes a nice boat anchor.
C-4 is a much better choice no matter what yor intentions.

Plus the C4 as alot more parts for it.
I like the C4 1-2-3 manual shift over the green dot trans Cruise O Matic.
