Well I emailed Kidde who makes some extinguishers and they got back to me fast. Here is the reply: There is no reason to be concerned regarding the safety of your extinguisher at the elevated temperatures you describe. The temperature range listed on the extinguisher is the range that must be listed in accordance with the UL Listing requirements for fire extinguishers. The internal pressure of the extinguisher will rise as the temperature increases, however, it will stay well within the design and test limits of the extinguisher.
For your information- A fire extinguisher with a B:C rating is recommended for automobile engine related fire use. Do not use an "A,B:C" rated extinguisher on your automobile engine. The fire fighting agent in theABC extinguisher will fuse to hot surfaces making clean-up aftter the fire difficult. One more thing I found. Those nice chrome ones that are being sold at most autopart stores which are made by APC. They do not work. Check out this link the UL.http://www.ul.com/about/newsrel/nr070901b.html ------------------ Marco S. $50 and may not work. That sucks. Question for you guys. Where do you get your extinguishers? I looked at Jegs, Summit, and JC Whitney and all they have is the APC's.------------------ Dustin C 56 F-100 Mech. for wifes 69 Mustang coupe 65 Plymouth Barracuda 70 Dodge Swinger

Car fire & Fire Dept story I came home from Racing one night in 1970 and was tired but need to pull the 800cfm off and put the 600cfm back on..well it was late (1Am). I pulled the 800 off and bolted the 600 on diubled checked the c=gas line to besure it was tight and then fired it up..shortly the was a large orange glow under the hood..seems she was on fire...neighbor work worked at local Ford Dealership and built the engine runs out with a blanket and covers the engine at the same time the Fire Dept rools up pull off two hose and points one at the engine which at this point Cliff grabs the hose and threatens the fireman with bodiedly harm if he send on drop of water on that engine! Toasted some wires and had some clean up to do..the cause...a small screwdriver blade between the base plate and intake..STUPID..STUPID..my fault! Gotta fire ext. the next day and never work on her till the next day..LESSON LEARNED! sam

You may want to check out this portable fire extinguisher that can be had for $20 at: www.fireade2000.com. It is claimed to not be coorosive and easier cleanup than the very coorosive "A-B-C" or 'dry chemical' extinguisher styles. I'm thinking I'll be getting one to put in my race car..... ------------------ The '3-Pedal Attitude' Kid in a '69 FB w/ 306 now, but the 460+ is coming... :D
