making it all red and getting rid of the black racing stripe. But leaving the Boss 429 hoodscoop gloss black.....
Kind of like the old '70 Boss 429's...
What do y'all think....if you even care...

For what it's worth (precisely nothing!), I don't think hood scoops, especially big ones, need highlighting with their own color. They already talk for themselves. Highlighting a 429 scoop is like a 10-foot Kodiak bear wearing a sign around his neck saying "Danger!"

I don't know, I'm kinda partial to flames myself!

But what you have in mind sounds pretty darn cool, too Eddie! Tough decision. Good luck with it!

You have the Scoop endorsement! Scoop sounds good, but to have only THAT black sort of makes it look like an afterthought. Have seen 429's mostly same color as body and seen a couple pics black with rest of car another color and it doesn't look as good. Guess I agree with Simon. Just an opinion. Did you do your Fl. trip??? Stay outta trouble??? LOL!

Well here goes...when I first got the Pony painted, I picked a color called "Ford Bright Red Clearcoat", which was the same as the old Ford Vermillion. While my guy was painting it he said "Eddie, better come take a look, this car is awfully red."
He was right...so I had the rear spoiler, the side Sport Mirrors, the original "Mach" type scoop painted black, with a black racing stripe on the hood, the width of the scoop.
A few years later, (suffering from "Scoop Envy") I bolted on a black Boss 429 scoop, which was wider than the stripe...
So now I think the stripe is too narrow...so I was going to either have a wider black stripe painted on, or go with the all red hood and black scoop.
I don't think I ever saw a Boss 429, with a matching colored scoop...I thought they were all flat black....(I had both my scoops Base Coat/Clear Coat gloss.)
And Pete...the Florida trip was postponed and not rescheduled yet..if we decide on the Keys...I'll stop by buddy.
And hey "Fastback"..I like the analogy..."Danger" is a cool sign for a muscle car.

I just opened my photo file of Boss 429's, and seven out of eight have the scoop the same color as the hood. There's only one that I know for sure is original, and that one has the scoop the same color. Maybe the flat black was optional?

Eddie,
Stay with the scoop being the same color and just accent the car with a black chin spoiler and rear wing if you want them.

I'll always be partial to the '69 Mach 1/Boss 302 type hood blackout. (I even considered it for my '70)

As for the hood scoops on Boss 429 Mustangs, the 69`s all had the scoop painted body color, while the 70`s were painted a matte black. Although Eddie`s 70 is not a Mach 1, the Shaker equipped 70 Sportsroofs used the same type of hood stripe as a Mach 1. Back in 1976, I bought a Grabber Orange 70 FB with a 351C 4V with the Shaker, & my buddy still owns the Grabber Green 70 Sportsroof that he bought brand new. Both had the black hood stripes with the "351" decals in the narrower outer stripes, on either side of the Shaker.

Well guys, thanks for the total confusion. I must have been thinking of the '70 Boss 429's. I'm old enough to remember them but they were as rare as hens teeth.
I have to admit, without starting an argument...I never liked the blacked out matte black hood on the '69 Mach's. When I bought my '69 Fastback (New)in late '68, I got a "Plane" candy apple red F/B with a 351W and 4 speed.
Have you guys looked at my car....I'm leaning to a BC/CC black gloss scoop with red hood. My front spoiler is black, rear is black and mirrors are black...and get rid of the stripe. Then maybe a nice thin double black pin stripe.
I'm just afraid it will be too red...my '02 is Torch red, (I just found it too red) and I've already added a black "C" stripe, Black cowl stripes and the black 4.6 logo on the scoop...but am considering a black scoop and shooting the rear spoiler black....
That way I'll have book end ponies...
Now if it was a Ferrari or a Viper...I'd stick with all red.....

Eddie have I looked at your car.
Heck I have a picture of it at home.Your car is real cool.I like both the black out hood, and the black scoop & spoiler idea.It just matter how much you want your scoop to stand out.If the scoop is black on a red hood it will stand out more.If the scoop and hood are red it will stand out less.I think with the scoop,or hood black your car will look more tuff.
Anything you do will NOT make your look bad.
