My current axle is a 2.80:1, how much of a difference would I see if I changed to a 3.80? Of the 1965's which is the best, which ones should I avoid?
THanks
Harry

There have been several similar threads like this before. You should check them out. I was gonna change to a 3.55 until someone told me my current 3.00 is better for an auto. Are you using auto or manual?
Simon
P.S.: Only one person at M&M uses a 2.80 and for some reason he takes a lot of stick Get ready ...

Thanks Simon,
I have a c-4 auto. I need to search the archives and dig around a little, sorry for not looking first.
I have been test driving 68's for my boss, and noticed a huge difference in how they took off. I started poking around and that seemed to be the only difference.
Can someone explain the difference in how the different gears drive.
Thanks
Harry

Harry, If you change from a 2.80 to a 3.80 youll see a pretty huge difference.. you'll be running high rpm's on the freeway just trying to cruise along at 65mph (well over 3000rpm). It will definitly make you not want to drive that car on the freeway.. but other than that youll sure be about to light those tires up with that gear ratio!

My 65 Has a 4speed trans And I changed to 3.55 and it was the best thing I have done to my car. I am right around 2,800-3,000 rpm at 60mph with the gears and 245/60/14 tires on my car.

I agree with the 3.50-3.55 as the biggest gear without having overdrive.. Anything bigger will keep your engine revving too high for the street because of the short tires that the Mustang uses..
