Hi all. I beleive the grill supports for a 71-72 Mustang are different from the 73' models. Does anyone know if this is correct? Also, is there a difference between the Mach 1 grill supports and standard grill supports for these years? Thanks for any help.

Yes on both accounts. The '71-'72 Mach 1 grille and the standard grille attach differently, and the '73 is different, too. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC My Photo Page Ever wonder why they call it 'dogma?'

Thanks for the quick reply Steve. I bought a 71' coupe that had a 71-72' Mach 1 grill attached to it. The center of the grill is busted out and I was wondering if the previous owner had also changed the grill support when he changed the grill or if he attached it using the grill support intended for a non-Mach 1 (which I assumed is what is on the car). Do you have a suggestion on how I can tell which support I have - what are the differences between the 71-72 Mach 1 support bracket and 71-72 non-Mach 1 support brackets? Just trying to run down the necessary pieces while it is apart, thanks again.

The standard '71-'72 grill support is actually 2 brackets about 6 inches apart in the center of the grill (which is what my '71 has) while the Mach 1 mounts with one bracket down the center. Hope this helps.------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

Thanks Duane. I have the 2 pc design you referred to as for the standard grill. Now I know to keep my eye out for another support to fit the used Mach 1 grill I acquired. Thanks again.

Cherish that grille; they get BIG bucks for them these days.
