Well, my pony's water broke over the weekend. It appeared that it was the lower rad. hose so I replaced that. Well, obviously with the subject that is above, it is the water pump. The weep hole is dribbling. The book that I have tells me that I must remove the radiator. Is this really necessary?

Probably not, but it will save your knuckles. If you can get the fan off with the radiator in place you'll be able to change the water pump.SteveW

It can be done with the radiator in. Removing it may save your knuckles and the radiator.------------------ JT '68 Coupe w/351W '01 Bullitt #3357, Dark Highland Green

Here's a tip: get a large piece of cardboard and slip it in front of your radiator. That way if you bump your radiator, you won't tear a cooling tube {or ten} open.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC My Photo Page I only want two things from life: I want patience and I WANT IT NOW!!!

bibbs68: Steve is right...all you have to do is take a big piece of cardboard and put it between the fan and the radiator. After doing that, it is a small matter to just drain the coolant, undo the top radiator hose, loosen the bolts that hold the water pump onto the engine, and lift the water pump right off the engine! Then, after the water pump is out, you can take the fan spacer and fan off.------------------ *andy* ([email protected]) also known as...***Boss Hoss*** *1965 Mustang 289 coupe* *1996 Mustang GT coupe*

No, take the fan and spacer off first. Much easier.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC My Photo Page I only want two things from life: I want patience and I WANT IT NOW!!!

Well, I actually had to remove the radiator. The bolts that hold the fan on were to long to get out from between the fan and the radiator. No bid deal. While I had the rad. out a gave it a good flush, cleaning, and repaint. It looks much better. That also let me do some cleaning/repainting where the rad. attached to the car.The only bad thing that happened is that the last bolt I had to take out of the water pump broke. Fortunately, there was enough of the bolt sticking out that I could get a Pipe Wrench on it. It came right out. I love the man who invented the pipe wrench. I had already tried several other things, but the pipe wrench did the trick!
