My local Mustang club (Savannah Mustang Club) had their annual show this past weekend, and while I was walking around looking at the cars, I saw something VERY unusual, and I want to know if anyone else has seen this.

I saw a 1966 coupe with the 1965 Falcon-style instrument housing. I'm talking about the housing that has two round gauges on either end (I call them "owl eyes), with a big wide speedometer in the middle. I thought this was style was available ONLY on 1964-1965 cars, but maybe I've stumbled onto a transition car?

For the record, I checked the VIN# of the car, and it did begin with a "6", and the car was correct for 1966 in every other way.

(By the way, our annual show might not be the biggest, but you do see some nice stuff...I saw a CONCOURS Boss 429, two identical red '67 GT500s, LOTS of fastbacks...drool, drool...)

He probably just changed the guages
I put '66 guages into my '65 (I had the long speedo too ) and just repainted them (those "Painters" paint pens from the crafts section of Wal-Mart work wonders )

True, the ammeter, and the oil guage dont work since my '65 doesnt have the hookups for it, BUT the speedo (I pulled them out of a 66 six-cylinder car), fuel, and temperature guage work like a dream

And yall said it couldnt be done! HA
have a good one

Iceman:
Are those paint pens available in the same neon orange color that the gauge indicator needles were painted? Mine are a little sun-faded, and I thought that there was a special neon orange paint you could buy to freshen up the appearance, but I can't find it in any of my Mustang parts catalogs.

Try the plastic model car section. Testors has a nice florescent orange along with really fine paint brushes.

I second the use of model paint, Im not sure if the Paint Pens come in bright orange -- they DO come in yellow and red and blue though.
