The cars keep so well there! We took the cowl panel off yesterday on the Mach, and it looks like a brand new, but dirty new car in there!Just a little cleaning and some POR-15, and she'll be good for another 31+ years! ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC Recycle --- Restore a Classic Ford!

Not really. The whole car is amazingly clean. I had already seen into the trunk, and I figured I didn't have a problem with the cowl. It was nice to see it for myself, though.I have the front pretty well stripped now. It is sure nice to get all the crumpled sheetmetal off. I don't know about you, but I rather see no sheetmetal than bad sheetmetal. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC Recycle --- Restore a Classic Ford!

Steve, I know what you mean! Here in Canada, we get some snow, & the road crews use salt, not sand, it really rusts cars bad! And here on the West coast, we likley have the mildest winters in all of Canada. Back in 92 TomP,& I drove to So. Cal for the NHRA Winternationals, (my first trip to Pomona). I had previously bought a pair of 428CJ heads from Ford Power Parts in Norwalk, & went to pick them up.In the parking lot was a 69 Fairlane Cobra fastback. It was a very faded gold, with the original primer showing in several spots. Anyways, we went in to get my heads, & there was a ad for that Fairlane on the for sale board. It turned out that the car belonged to one of the guys who worked there. It had a fresh 428, with a PI alum. intake & correct 735 Holley, the CJ exh. manifolds, alum. CJ finned Valve covers & a set of adjustable rocker arms. It also had a fresh C6 & 3.00 31 spline nodular Trac lock, 14x7 Magnum 500`s with 2 new tires. The Ram Air unit was intact, & other than the beat paint was amazingly solid. After the race, we drove home in my Fairmont that we went down in, & 2 weeks later I bought a 1 way ticket, & flew down to pick it up. This was after a full days work on Friday, got to Ontario Ca. airport at 10.00pm, exchanged cash & paper work & I was headed north.( had to be back at work Mon. morning, 1200 mile trip.)If you want an experiance you won`t forget, hop in a 20+ year old musclecar that you`ve never sat in before, and do a LONG road trip. The heater core leaked, so the hoses were bypassed, but, hey I`m in California in Feb., no chance of snow, right? WRONG!!! around Mount Shasta in Nor. Cal. I hit a driving blizzard. 10-20 mph on the freeway for 3 hours, glued to the back of a semi. (I did mention no heat, right?)My fingers were numb on the steering wheel, but eventually hit southern Oregon, & the last of the snow.Oh yeah, the rear main seal starting gushing, had to add 2 quarts every gas stop.Stopped at Seattle Int. Raceway Sun.morning,(It was on the way!) made 5 or 6 passes, & continued home. That Monday, I drove my new treasure to work, put it up on the hoist, & marveled at the complete lack of rust. Pulled the wheels off, to find no undercoating in the wheel wells. Soaked a rag in solvent, gave the well a wipe, & was greeted by nice gold paint! Cleaned up the floor after fixing the rear main seal, & the entire undercarrige was in the same condition. I suppose, in California, this was just another old car, but to me, it was like finding the crown jewels! If those So. Cal. folk seen some of the old cars that have been rebuilt up here, with new floors, frame rails, torque boxes, etc, they would just puke! One of these days, I wanna head down to Cal. again or Arizona with my ramp truck empty, & some US $$$$, & find me another bargian. I`ve been spoiled!!!

For sure!I think the last time there was a rust-free '70 Mach 1 in Maine was about 1971. To give you an idea, I had a '70 fastback in 1979 I got rid of because it was too rusted! The first rule of restoring a car is to start off with a solid body so you have something worthwhile to bolt the parts to. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC Recycle --- Restore a Classic Ford!

That's what I've been telling people all along. Want a good project, start in Cali or AZ. If anyone wants some leads, I still have connections in AZ. Lots of old cars sitting on the reservations in AZ. I still have buddies there that can hunt them down and get info for me.
