Here are pictures of the heads on my 289, I was told they are 302 heads but I have no idea what year http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=113040&page=3Can you maybe help me figure this out by the pic? I also wanted to know what I have to buy to get a cam with more lift, I'd like to go the cheapest way. Right now I either have 420 or 440 lift but I want a more loapy sound. Can you help me out pelase? THANKS!

This might help it has 8A14 stamped on the inside of the head. They seem like screw in studs and have a metal like valley going across each stud. something like this "[" but level.

By the pedestal mount rocker arms, they are later 302 heads. 8A14 is a date code, meaning January 14, '_8. It could be '78 or '88, depending on the casting number, which is under the intake ports in the lifter valley area. For the cam reccomendation, what do you have so far, such as carb, exhaust, tranny, rear gears? ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC Proud to be an Infidel!

They are definatly 82 or newer heads from the top anyway. They should have smog holes in the front and rear that are plugged? ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00 & '01 Fleet of FoMoCo products Moneymaker Bio US Class Nationals link

These later heads have large combustion chambers don't they? With a 289 wouldn't this make for low compression? I am just butting in the conversation to say wouldn't he be ahead of the game to get heads with smaller chambers?

When rebuilding the engine the orginal heads were replaced with World Product Windsor Jrs and compression was bumped to 10 to 1 using new pistons...only thing left of the orginal engine is the block which is now bored .30 over. sam
