I am trying to decide what the most "correct" color is for my 1965 Mustang's headliner. My standard (non-pony) interior is the bright red color, and the current headliner is white...but the DPO (Dreaded Previous Owner) SPRAY-PAINTED the headliner white! What a doofus! :P

Now, I know that 1965 headliners are available in both white and bright red, but I am not sure which color was most often used with the bright red interior. I am guessing that the headliner should be red, since I don't think any other interior color scheme would go with a red headliner. But if the DPO spray-painted it white, maybe he was trying to "freshen up" the color that it was.

What do you all think? Does anyone else have a 1965 Mustang with the red standard interior?

Andy,
I pretty sure that all headliners for 65 were white. Colors were optional in 66. But unless you are building for concours, put in the color you like. I put a black one in my coupe.

Mike: Heard that same answer as yours before. Think you're right. I wonder what other MCA garus have to say. Alex has a 64'5. Wonder what his is. But I think a red headliner would look better with a red int.

Actually the headliner in my 65 was white but I didn't like it so I spray painted it black. It was in perfect shape so I didn't want to rip it out. I sprayed it about 5 times with a vinyl dye about 10 years ago. It looks great. I don't think anyone could tell it wasn't black originally.
