Between computer problems and trying to meet a dead line on getting the car done before Atlanta, it been tough keeping up on M&M.Anyway, I got the 347 sitting in the engine bay, thats about all. I got to lower the trans out and modify the opening for the shifter. I put a Pro 5.0 shifter on the T-5 and it won't fit the opening like the stock shifter, minor problem. Had to have the Edelbrock heads worked on before swapping from motor to motor. One bent valve and three bad valve guide, not bad for 5 years of service. I won't even tell you about the undersized pilot bushing. But finally its all coming together, still got a week and a couple of days to thrash it out. Mike

Still not fired up yet, hoping to get it started up by saturday and get some miles on the motor before driving it to Commerce.I found out that the Ford Motorsport Aluminum valve cover will crack if hit with a hard object Also found out that a Holley mech fuel pump will not bolt up to a Mexican 302 block, had to grind about 1/4" off a casting lug to fit Still working on it Mike [This message has been edited by kcode (edited 09-19-2001).]

Its alive!!!!!Took the coupe out for its maiden voyage today. So far no problems, got some fine tuning to do with the Road Demon. I did find out that my 3.50 open rear ain't gonna cut it, tires go up in smoke. If I can get my 3.89 trac-lok rebuilt in the next three days, I'll be ok, or just swap the trac-lok to the 3.50. Becky summed it all up when I took her for a ride, "Thank goodness your seats have headrests. Mike

Yup isn't it great!I got my 347 in my 65 about 2 months ago but have been plagued with other problems since. Just this weekend I think I toasted the wiring due to a short. I have though gotten a few good runs in and it feels great. Even with my 3.0 rear I need to launch at idle to keep from smoking the tires. Enjoy.

Jazzy, So far I didn't have any problems, in fact it fired up on the first crank. I'm not real happy with carb yet. I guess I've only got about 2 hours running time on it. I will put some miles on it tuesday to work the bugs out. Then hit the road to Atlanta on thursday, about a three hundred mile drive. I am a little concerned on the longevity of the motor. I went with the SRP (Jahns) forged pistons with wrist pin going through the oil ring. Compression with the 60 cc Edelbrocks is around 10.8. So far I am impressed compared to the old 289. Now if I can just keep it together Mike

I should have been more clear. The motor is great and has been running perfectly. I didn't really design it be a daily driver but it is smooth enough. Perhaps a little too loud however. All the problems have been from places other than the motor.First the clutch failed but in a way that was odd enough that I couldn't figure out what happened. It just went suddenly but the return spring fell out at the same time so it was really odd. About half of the facing of the McCleod just fell off without any other signs of failure or slipping before that. Since this I have been plagued with electrical problems. Since I run fuel injection it effects the performance because without enough power the injectors can't keep up and the ECU gets false signals. The battery is also running down because of a short somewhere. Since I have now burned the harness I will be much more careful with my new wiring to avoid this. Hopefully this is the only short. I have a Probe Stroker kit with 10.5:1 Probe forged pistons and ported TFS Street Heat heads. It feels like it is going to be a great little motor once I get the bugs out. I'm not really worried about longevity. If it runs strong for 35K miles I'll be more than happy. Since it's not my daily driver I doubt I'll see that kind of mileage. Probe said that it is good for an easy 50K miles even with a 100 shot of NOS. I haven't decided on that though.

Thanks Sam, If you would have stuck around alittle longer, I would have took you for a ride. I still got work to do on the rear end. I might be dreaming but with the other gears, like you, and tires, it sould be running in the high twelves. All my runs on friday had consistent trap speeds of 108-110 mph. The Quick Fuel carb worked great, I just bolted it on and didn't make any adjustments, and still ran 20-21 mpg on the interstate. Mike
