I know it's only been 30 months since I bought my car and in that time I have done, and had done, soooooooooo much work. What you are about to see are some of the "Before" shots of this car up close and personal. For you purists it's a must see to see how crazy I was to buy this car and to make you feel good that this car was not crushed for metal. For you others who think your task is too much, take a look, maybe it might make you feel better about doing that part of your car that you were sceptical about doing. Either way, now that I've experienced Geocities, I have my own little way of showing the rest of the world the progress of my car. More to come.... Here's the site http://www.geocities.com/nyc1055/progress1page.html Squeamish and faint of heart people should view this with caution. It ain't pretty folks. Tony C* This is the 2nd page I've put together. If this one don't prove to you guys that I'm @#@*)(@!^%! crazy than nothing will. here it is:http://www.geocities.com/nyc1055/progress2page.html ------------------ 65 Convertible 289 4spd M&M Member#450[This message has been edited by cynot65 (edited 08-16-2001).] [This message has been edited by cynot65 (edited 08-16-2001).]

So come on Tony, spill the beans ... how much have you spent on her??? M&M is the place where we can be honest. Mine was in WAAAAAYYY better shape than yours when I started, and it's cost me a total of $10,000 to date (including purchase price)

7 grand for the welding work. Plus buying the car (not telling), plus parts (about 2k), plus everything else. I think there's another 5k to go before it's finished. Thank God for an understanding wife. From what I've been told, selling the Hardtop could finance the rest of the job and then some. Sell the top. Having been down the road with those damn things, they're a pain in the a**.What do you with them is a big question. Will you be driving it in weather that needs it? I hope not! I'll be loking forward to seeing the after shots. Truthfully, it's more than I would have handled. I admire your conviction.

Mellow, all I would need to do is put in a new headliner, polish it up and that sucker is ready to go on. Selling it would kill me just because of it's rarity. Honestly, who else do you know who has one. Your point about driving it in unruly weather is a good one but also consider this for the time being while the ragtop is not done I could drive the car when it's cold. Tony C*

Tony: Are you painted yet? What color? A few years back, MMonthly did an article on the tops. They featured a car, a yellow 66 GT cv that had one. Also, back in the 80's a guy started to make them and he sent one to MMonthly to test. They put it on Don Farr's 66 GT cv. At that time, Don was editor of MMonthly{wish he still was!} Another person wrote to them saying that he got one from a woman who gave it to him with the stipulation that he NOT bring it back! No kidding! I have the name of a man who was doing some research on them at one time. He lives in So. Ill. I will email his name.

Mellow, This car is a month or 2 away from paint. As it sits right now. I'm in the prepping stage. I am going to give it a coat of primer and then start the real nitty gritty. I've made a deal with the body guy who told me that for every hour I put into making the car ready for paint, it saves me $200. I haven't even seam sealed it or done any undercoating yet. Like I said months away. I am going to paint it Vintage Burgandy.Im going to add some other shots of the resto. I'm going for the OH MY GOD response this time. Tony C* Thanks for the e-mail------------------ 65 Convertible 289 4spd M&M Member#450

Wow, you are a saint. Your new name should be 'the savior' for saving that car. Truethfully, if that car didn't have the hardtop would you have bought it? That is more than most would have bit off, but that last photo with the new metal welded on is inspiring. Good luck with it and keep posting photos.I actually saw a 6 cylinder in a junk yard last weekend that was 'near mint' compared to yours. No kidding, this thing had floors and good pony interior and was being scrapped. PS, Keep the top, it is cool and what makes your car unique.(JMHO) ------------------ Harry Straub '65 Mustang Coupe http://www.harrystraub.com/resto.html [This message has been edited by Harrys'65 (edited 08-17-2001).]

Harry, The hardtop came as an after thought. As I was just about ready to pull out of the guys driveway, he said "Oh by the way don't forget the hardtop". So the answer to your question is yes, the car was already on the flatbed. As a side note too. the day we towed it back here, was the last day that this car ever had any rain fall on it and I'm telling you it was a monsoon rain. This car will NEVER see rain on it again unless I'm out out with it and a freak of nature happens. The only water this car will ever see is the little amount I'll use to wash it. Tony C* The nex page will make you guys feel better. Tony C*------------------ 65 Convertible 289 4spd M&M Member#450

Yo Tony! You said you needed help? I think I hear my Mother calling me!!! I'll catch you later! LOL! Like, I said before, I put in floors, rails, torque boxes and some minor patch work. And I thought I had done a major job. It was a walk in the park compared to this. Really looking forward to seeing more pics. I think that 7000 was a decent price for all that work.

I dug up some of the after shots and I'll be posting them soon. I myself can't believe how much I've done to this car. Harry, You can call me "the Savior" I kind of think it fits. When I do post th new pix most of them will be of the driver side of the car. You can assume that the passenger side of the car had the same operation. Todays project is to cut the pieces off the shock towers that used to hold the braces. I'm going with the export brace instead. Tony C*------------------ 65 Convertible 289 4spd M&M Member#450
