If I was ever so lucky to find the same build date or say a week or so before my car was built what serial # on the block would I look for OK my 65 (not 641/2 ) we already determined that a month or so here at Mand M My car was made 9/17/64 I'm looking for the correct block. Question: Do I look for serial #4J17 or # 5J17 (keep in mind it's a 65 car) but was built in Sept 17,1964 So did they code the serial # for the actual date built which would be 4J17, or code it for the production year then it would be 5J17 serial number I need .Now I KNOW i'm NOT going to find the exact date engine but I just want to know what would be correct. I hope all this rambling makes sense. Love this web site, Bob

Bob, If you are building the car for MCA concours classes, the engine cast date should precede the build date up to 60 days. The block assembly date, which is metal stamped on the left front of the block should be within 30 days.------------------ Mike Golliver MCA Assistant National Head Judge-Modifieds 65 Kcode coupe modified 5-speed 66 convertible-3 dueces and a 5-speed with a 289 65 Fastback -GT-350H clone vintage racer with a massive cracked block 89 T-Bird Super coupe 01 Mustang GT Convt

Sheesh! This concours restoration stuff blows my mind!!!!! I wanna say something which sounds like an insult, except I understand because I am just as off the wall. From what I hear, people who go in for MCA concours class are seriously disturbed, but so am I. I HATE having anything not original on my car, and will spend hours restoring some sh*tty little piece of plastic rather than buy a new one for $1. Heh, we're all in the same boat - just at different ends! No offence meant

Shoe, Either one will work. The date code on your door data plate was the scheduled production date, not necessarily the exact date of production.Mike

Right on about the schedule and actual date. In late 67 Ford went on strike and my 68 cv was scheduled for build Sept 15, l967 and was actually produced 63 days later on Nov. l7 at San Jose. Thanks to Kevin Marti.
