I just had my transmission out of my car for a rebuild, Its a Ford Top loader out of a 1965 Mustang the tag on the trans says

RUG AG
012 120

Then in the casting it says this.....
C8AR 700G-D
W2 A14

Can anyone decode this and tell me what car or year of car it is off of, I don't see it as listed for a 65 or 66 mustang. Thanks in advance.

It's a 69 351 4 speed trans out of a Mustang. That is it's origin anyway.

It is a similar unit. 1 and 1/16th input shaft and a standard output. It was used behind 351W 2 or 4 barrel engines in 1969 Mustangs.

Only thing I can add is that it is a close-ratio. The close ratio toploaders have a tall first gear that is not great for drag racing. It is a good choice for autocrossing or normal street driving though.

You're welcome,

Geeze now you know as much about toploaders as Alex and I do?!?! (well almost as much as Alex) They always teach you to conceal your sources... Oh well if you'd have checked the "links page" on M&M it was there all along. There's a lot of great info on this site, everyone should check out the archives, links, and articles. Enjoy!
