ok, now on to cooling...with the crate 5.0, i plan on using the '67 289 timing cover and water pump. any mods necessary? if this works, can i then use a universal fit griffin radiator? if figure if i kept the stock style pump, the inlet/outlet arrangement would be the same - both on the passenger side. or am i wrong? thanksjeff

are you using the standard or reverse rotation water pump. it does make a difference as the water pump inlets are on different sides. since you say you are using the 67 timing cover i will assume you are using a 67 style waterpump. if so then the stock type radiator si fine.

My HO 5.0 motor performs well with an early 65 timing cover, aluminum waterpump(like original) and a 4 row {original style} radiator w/shroud and 180 thermostat. I have a condenser in front of it for AC. Actually, I could have gotten away with a 3 row, even in S. Fl. heat. It certainly is cheaper than the Griffin and does the job very well after 10,000 miles.

actually, i've heard of griffins being priced around $170 for a universal fit type radiator. i'm ok using that set-up to get aluminum performance at a 3-4 core price. i just hope the custom fab radiator mounts won't be too hard. i definitely can't go with the bolt in griffin units at $400.

It's actually pretty easy to make mounts. I just make them out of cardboard until I get a perfect fit and then take the pieces down to the local sheet metal shop and have them make them for me out of heavy guage metal pieces. I can't remember the thickness but it is strong enough that I would need to use heavy tools to bend it. I made both the top and bottom mounts this way. Not expensive at all. quote: Originally posted by 67resto-coupe: actually, i've heard of griffins being priced around $170 for a universal fit type radiator. i'm ok using that set-up to get aluminum performance at a 3-4 core price. i just hope the custom fab radiator mounts won't be too hard. i definitely can't go with the bolt in griffin units at $400.
