the steering is really sloppy in my '69 mustang. i did away with the power steering, and now it's really loose. is this a common problem? can things just be tightened or will i have to buy new stuff?

How is the rest of the suspsension? tie rods? Ball joints? bushings? Little things add up quickly in the steering department.
I am leaning towards steering box however. If you still have power steering control valve, on it, and you just removed the pump and lines, that is likely a big source of slop.

Was it tight before you removed the P/S?
