Have pretty much decided to put EFI in my 68 cvt that is lacking an engine. Went to a late model Mustang parts warehouse today. My questions include whether to use c-4, built AOD. My understanding is that the stock AOD is weak. AM leaning to a 92 engine with same mass air setup. I prefer to use the C-4 out of a 70 with shift kit. Tri-Y headers. Am open as to whether to use early belt system. My car has Fact Air and PS. I have a booklet from Mustang Plus showing an installation in a 66 with 4spd. Interesting. Also have info from Windsor-Fox. They have everything. The big drawback is the engine harness. Has anyone done this swap??

You know the AOD can be built to take a good amount of torque. Lentech Automatics, 3487 Joy's Rd. Richmond, Ontario, Canada, (613) 838-5390 has had alot written about them lately.------------------ SteveLaRiviere/Webmaster -- MCA # 47773 Have rice for dinner, not transportation!

Thanks for the info. According to MMonthly, they have the answer to AOD's. Spoke to a 5.0 guy last nite at club meeting. Plan on keeping it fairly stock. As I do not do THAT much travel, will probably stick with a C-4. MMonthly did a cost analysis between the 2 trannys. Using a Lentech plus the conversion stuff brings the cost to $1550. If I were to drive 15,000 per year, I would save about $500 in gas. I am using a 3:25 -9' rear. On the other hand....the Lentech is tempting!!

Pete, FYI we beat many a stock AOD very hard around here and have yet to experiance any failures. I install a JPT valve body and type "F" fluid. That's it! One of the kids has 108K miles on his 93 LX with mild mods and probably in excess of 1000 drag strip passes. Not a peep out of it yet. Fluid and filter is changed every 5K miles per my recomndation. You will have the benifit of the OD and additional fuel economy on the road. If you are going ahead with the FI conversion, then I would sugest an AOD over a C-4 for street duty. That way you can have some REAL GEARS too! Alex------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator Fleet of FoMoCo's too long to list! http://superstockers.homestead.com/week.html

Alex: Thanks for the input. I was waiting for your answer. I can get the AOD for not that much -for an unmodified one. What you say about the gears is true. For another opinion, what do you think of the 3:25 ratio that I now have? And for even another opinion, I recently read about gears that are available for use in c-4's that are taller in 1st and 2nd and unchanged in high. I am going to go ahead with the project and have selected a 92 motor.

As for the engine harness question, FRPP makes a EFI swap harness that makes it all pretty much "plug in". It's the easiest route to take in putting a 5.0 in an older car.

Low gear sets are available for both C-4's and AOD's Pete. I have a 2.75 gearset in the JPT AOD that I am selling. With a 3.25 rear gear and a 2.75 low, the car will accellerate like it has 4.56 gears. I you plan on a lot of highway cruising, the 3.25's would probably be the way to go. I myself would use 3.73's with an AOD. Best of both worlds. I'm buying a digital camera and hope to be able to post some progress pics. This is new to me but have commited to doing it. I appreciate the info you guys have given! The pic on my cars site show how it is today. Usually install the engine after paint but this time it's going first!! Don't want any screw ups! After engine and trans, gets trailered to muffler shop and back home to finish.
