As some of you may know I'm building a new
AFR headed late model roller 302. I was looking at the AFR web site and they have
dyno runs posted. My cam specs out between
the two biggest cams shown. I'm really surprised at the high horsepower shown on these graphs. Do you think these are inflated
to help sell heads? I was thinking i'd have
about 350hp not 400+hp. check out
the page and let me know what you think http://www.airflowresearch.com/ford_dyno.htm

Those results look about right, based on other information I have seen. The AFR head is a "finished" head, as it has been CNC ported throughout, which gives it an advantage over similar "as cast" heads.

One good comparison to keep in mind is the Performer RPM package by Edelbrock. With ported C8 heads, their 302 made 330hp. By installing Performer RPM heads, power climbed to 367hp. This is an example of how much potential is available in after market heads.

I have been thinking about getting some AFR heads for either my 91 Mustang or to use on a 393 to swap into my truck, but the 351C in the cougar has top priority.

Good luck on your engine, and let us know how everything works out!

I ordered the heads today, i had the springs
and valves upgraded. They are milling the head from 58cc to 54cc. I will be getting them in two weeks.

I'm trying to decide right now between stage 1 TFTW and out of the box AFR (165cfm) heads. They're about the same price and probably flow about the same from what I can gather. Tell us what your's did for you Billgear. BTW, those Dyno numbers are from an engine dyno with dyno headers (don't even have to fit in a car) and straight 3" pipies. No cats, mufflers or bends. Also no fan or alternator. And with a top notch dyno tune. The conditions are standard dyno rather than SAE. All that adds about 20% to the way OE manufacturers measure power. That's why the numbers seem high.

the hp ratings dont sound bad but they also say at the bottom that a stock 95 mustang ran the 1/8 mile in 6.92 seconds think not they are lucky to run it in 8.92 most ive seen run low 9'sso im not impressed with theyre site figures
