Okay, these motors have been out for a while, how many miles are they going before needing rebuilds or replacement?

My dad bought a 98 F150 with 225,000 on it, it runs great, doesn't smoke or use oil.

Just curious how many have these motors with high miles.

Part of my job is to look after a fleet of 250 Ford trucks, 98 & up. No V6's, all 4.6's, 5.4's and V10's.

The 4.6's are holding up the best. I'd say they are good for 300K if they hav been maintained. Maybe more?
Most of the 5.4's and all the V10's are using oil and were using oil before they hit 100K.

my 1999 5.4 has used a quart every 1500 miles since 30k miles it has 150k now. I had to replace alternator twice and put 3 sparkplugs back into the drivers side head after they popped completly out wrecking the coil pack in the process, luckily the plugs only took the threads with them and not a chunk of the head, coil packs aren't cheap tho.

Basically YES!!,Driving home I would hear a pop and then compression sound, the spark plug still in the coil pack would be bouncing on top of the hole it used to be in,the fella that does some of my mechanic work when (i'm to busy) and used to be a Ford mechanic says this was a problem in 1999 5.4's and v10's the heads where brittle, ford played it down and tryed to blame it on aftermarket sparkplugs which some plugs have as much as 1/3 of a thread less then oem plugs and will cause this falure.
BTW I have Bosch Platinums so I guess it was my fault ...grumble!
