Quick question, can you tell if an 04 ranger with a v6 is a 3l or 4l by looking at it?

Simple enough, thankyou. I ask because I have a friend with a ranger that claimed it was a 4l but didnt seem to have near the power that most 4ls Ive driven,..turns out it is a 3. (guess he felt inadequate & needed to preach it was bigger than it really is)...the engine that is.
