Today My F150 developed a leak from the box. It is losing power steering fluid through the sector shaft. Is it just a seal that needs to be replaced,or is something bad internally? The box has felt funny at times, not returning to center after a sharp turn, especially in reverse. It then shakes itself out after a mile or so.

a guy I work with had this happen to his Dodge this past summer. He said the mechanic told him the sector shaft gets grooved out in the seal area, and there is no real way to fix it without a rebuild.

Any ideas?

Last Friday I took the pitman arm off with intent to change the seals. When I got it off, I noticed some play in the sector shaft,so I traded it in on a rebuilt one. Problem solved!
