Well maybe not yet.
bought my f-150 new in 98.
In march of 2002 I had to spend $3.52 for a new plastic ring on my shift lever.

Today I changed the plugs and fuel filter.

Thats it! may need a battery soon.

love my truck

In comparison, Mike's brother-in-law has a '03 or something Chevy and the rear bumper has totally rusted out already.

Around here people trade in their cars when the tires don't pass for inspection. Some of my relatives can't even change a flat.

My truck will be a test in rust abatement. I am going on 11 years on the battery! Still has the original shocks and complete exhaust for 105k! I did have the oil pan changed though,it rusted out.

The payments are cheap now. Just a few small parts here and there.

I've looked at the GM trucks,ridden/driven them and the feel too car-ish. I would consider a Dodge if the weren't complete POS's and gas pigs. Foreign trucks are just for pretend. Honda Ridgeline? YARIGHT!!! When was the last time you saw a wrecker boom on the back of one of them!

I was considering a Dakota for a while. Then I kept reading ads that spelled out all the parts they had replaced I think there were more new parts than originals. I'm hunting for an F150 now, just their ads scared me off! Dodges might be nice trucks, but their repair records are suspect at best.

My friend at work has a half ton extended cab 4x4 with a 360 that gets 10.5-11 mpg.

Find me a 65 Ranchero with a 200 six and a 3 speed like my Dad had.

Ran great, was easy to work on, and didn't have sensor one for any darned thing! You knew what every part under the hood was for.

As soon as you do it, they'll pass the laws. Ask me how I know.

This is why I'm going to run my 91 until it just falls apart on the side of the road. Heck, it's not even broke in yet as the odometer is just now getting ready to turn 70,000 miles!

That 302 will outlive the rest of the truck.

My Dad bought a new 77 E150 van with a 351W and a 3 speed manual trans.

It was finally retired about 3 years ago or so. It had 297K on it. The motor was never out of the van. Never had the pan off it.

2 valve jobs, a timing chain, and about 3 clutches, as I recall and the 3 speed finally wore out a few years back. That was all that it needed for all that time.

302s are usually that good or better.

My local Ford dealer keeps wanting me to trade the F-150 in on a new truck. I told him you just want that 302 out of it. He admits the truck is worth more in parts than as a whole. Heck, I could sell the engine for a nice price, and it's got a good E4OD tranny in it too!

And it gets 19mpg! Can't beat that on an F-150!
