I own a 99 f350 sd with 62000 miles...bought new in 98.It went into the shop in 2003 because of a vibration when the brakes were applied hard but not what I would a"panic stop".It was happening out on the hiway when the rotors were cooled off after several miles of driving.Anyway, the shop resurfaced rotors and installed new ceramic fnt pads, back drum brakes were good.Well that lasted 10,000 miles now it'worse than ever unless after a few "panic stops"because of idiots pulling out in front me.If I start braking a quarter mile ahead to let the rotors and pads warm up it won't do it. Has anyone had this problem or know of others that have and what's the long term cure new QUALITY HP ROTORS & PADS?I would think the rotors are junk.

OK, first and foremost you need to submit your VIN to Ford and see if your truck is eligible for the upgrade TSB. This TSB includes new calipers, pads (rotors if required) and insulators to help keep them cooler. I may have the upgrade already. Otherwise then you need to remachine the pads and buy the genuine MOTORCRAFT pads. NOTHING else works as well and as long. They are the upgraded units. I have 128k on ours and it is on the second set of pads since new and the upgrade. The upgrade was done at 17K miles since it also pulsated from the first hard stop. Between 10K and 17K we put on 3 sets of rotors and OE style pads. I intentionally panic stopped it after each installation and the pulsation came right back. After the upgrade at 17K we did not replace pads again until 101K towing miles. I machined the rotors, installed the high buck Motorcraft pads, and we are still going strong. If you can't find the pads locally I can get them for you. TSB = Technical Service BulletinI'm pretty sure you have to run your VIN by a Ford dealer's service advisor to know if you qualify. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip [This message has been edited by SteveLaRiviere (edited 03-07-2005).]

My rotors needed to be turned relatively soon after I bought my truck new (within 30k miles?). The service writer attributed the uneven wear to me pulling a trailer without trailer brakes. I said nonsense but let him put that on the service invoice to get the work done for free. Since then Ive had no problems.------------------ MarkC ~ 1970 Mach 1 T-5 1965 Shelby Trans Am coupe (clone) http://www.mustangsandmore.50megs.com/70MachT5.html
