I have a `66 f-100 stepside and for the past six months this has been my daily driver it has a 300 straight six that burns oil like no other a couple days ago i checked my oil and it was two quarts low so i topped it off I drove the truck 20 miles and came around a corner and my oil light came so i checked my oil again and it was almost empty I can get a good 289 for it and i plan on swapping it in because the 300 is going to blow up soon if it keeps going through oil what will i have to do to complete the swap thanks------------------ Tyler Shaffer M&M`s youngest member `64 falcon futura soon will be and in the process of being a 5.0 powered falcon `51 willys jeep `73 plymouth duster 318 5.33 suregrip

I don't know about the 300 six, but the 302 in my 68 was a straight swap(bolt in and go) for the 240 I6. I had to use the v8 engine perches though. And mine is a c4, don't know what tranny you have.

With it that bad, pull the valve cover & see if the oil return holes are clogged in the head, this would hold all the oil in the top with none in the pan & would use a lot also due to the valve guides being submerged in oil. If this is the case use a coat hanger, gas welding rod etc to punch out the goo, spray some carb cleaner thru them, install valve cover, let it run 15-20 min. & change oil. An easy way to tell is check the oil & note reading carefully after sitting overnight 12-15 hrs., start the engine, let it run 5 min, shut it off, check stick immediatly, if it is low of oil then, it is staying in upper part of engine. If you find this & remedy it the engine might not use over a quart per thousand miles then. [This message has been edited by cracing (edited 03-06-2005).]

Sometimes the PCV valve will stick open and evacuate an oil pan like nobody's business! It is worth a check,if you have one on the motor.

I have checked the pcv valve and it sucks like it should, I was thinking of replacing the valve seals. I have a 4-speed granny gear tranny but i was thinking of swapping over to a c-4 or 6------------------ Tyler Shaffer M&M`s youngest member `64 falcon futura soon will be and in the process of being a 5.0 powered falcon `51 willys jeep `73 plymouth duster 318 5.33 suregrip

If you do decide to swap in a 302, you will need V8 towers on the chassis and 1968 and up F-100 302 mounts (the first year a 302 was offered in the trucks). I have a 1966 F-100 with a 351C. That uses the same mounts as a 302 and this is the setup that's in my truck. My truck was originally a 352 and these towers are what's still in the truckTracy ------------------ Tracy M&M #245 MAC OS9.1 & 10.3.8/ Earthlink DSL 1956 F-100 Panel w/429 (3.50 9") 1966 F-100 SWB w/351C (3.25 9" - 3.70 posi for Saturday nights) Music City F-100's, 1965 GT-350 S/C (2.78 1st & 3.70 TracLok 9") Music City Mustang Club Don't focus on the destination....make the JOURNEY the adventure Visit my Web site: DidgeyTrucker's Website
