A guy at work has a 99 Ranger with a 3.0 in it and is having problems. He said that the gage indicating the charge went from normal to ballistic. Also said that lights in the dash started to flicker as well but I didnt ask him if they were idiot lights or lights to illuminate the dash. He put a new battery in there and the truck was fine but then the same thing happened the next day. I havent looked at it yet but do you think its the alternator? That would be my first guess and I dont know if there is a voltage regulator bolted somewhere like older cars or if its in the alternator. Being so new there could be a bunch of other thing that could be causing this so I thought I would ask.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

This sounds like a bad chassis or body ground to me.

Checked it out! Battery light was on and the gauge needle was down but steady. Pulled it and had them check the alt out at the parts store. It was bad but I dont know if it was the alternator or the regulator that was inside it. Either way now, its fixed.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55
